Locum Physician Hospitalist OR Hospitalist + PEDS

**Position Overview:**
This is a 24-hour solo coverage role at a rural hospital, typically encompassing a 12-15 hour active shift with the remainder on-call. The physician will have access to sleeping accommodations either nearby or on-site.

- **Start Time:** 12:00 PM
-

**Clinical Details:**

- **Total Beds:** 25
- **Average Daily Encounters:** 18

- **Average Daily Census:** 14.25
- **ICU Beds:** 4

- **Ancillary Services Available:** X-Ray, Lab, CT, Anesthesia, STAT Lactate, Cardiac Enzymes, Procalcitonin, Physical and Speech Therapy

- **Sub-Specialty Support:** eICU Intensivist
- **EMR System:** Cerner

**Administrative Aspects:**
- **Sleeping Arrangements:** Dedicated call room within the facility

- **Credentialing Timeline:** To be determined (expedited options available: Yes/No)

- **Licensing Expedition:** Availability of "telemed" licenses as temporary full licenses

**Hospitalist Workflow:**
- **Shift Structure:** 24-hour shifts with a typical on-site presence of 12-15 hours, followed by night call.

- **Admission and Rounding Responsibilities** are included.

- **Shift Hours** are from 12:00 PM to 12:00 PM (handoff on the final day can occur between 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM).

 
**Orientation Protocol:**
- Orientations are conducted on weekdays, lasting approximately 4 hours at a rate of $200/hour.

- Weekend shifts necessitate scheduling orientation between Monday and Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

- For those starting on a weekday, arrival at 8:00 AM on the first day for orientation is required.

**Logistics:**
- The client will cover overnight accommodations for the provider’s initial night.

- Morning rounds typically commence between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM, which may vary by facility.

**Evening Engagement:**
- **Informal Evening Rounds:** Encouraged between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM to foster communication with ED and nursing staff, which may mitigate night disruptions.

**Admissions Management:**
- Given the variability of ED competencies, efforts should be made to evaluate patients in the ED to minimize unnecessary admissions that may require immediate transfer.

- Transition orders will be utilized for overnight admissions (11:00 PM - 6:00 AM), prepared by the ED physicians to streamline admissions without necessitating the provider's direct involvement in order entry.

**Discharge Coordination:**
- Familiarity with patients anticipated for discharge is critical before rounds commence, facilitating timely discharges and organizational efficiency within the nursing staff for follow-up admissions later in the day.

**Required Certifications:**

- **Board Certification:** Required (Board-eligible candidates may be considered)

- **ACLS and BLS certification**

- **Additional Certifications:** PALS, NRP may be required
