Locum MD (Medical Doctor), DO (Osteopathic Doctor) Ophthalmology

As a Locum Ophthalmology physician, you will be responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing a wide range of eye conditions, providing both medical and surgical care. This role is ideal for an Associate-level physician who thrives in a dynamic clinical setting and is committed to delivering exceptional outcomes. 

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive medical and surgical ophthalmology care to patients
• Perform thorough eye examinations, including vision tests and diagnostic procedures
• Diagnose and treat eye diseases, injuries, and vision disorders
• Develop individualized treatment plans and prescribe appropriate medications
• Conduct ophthalmic surgeries and procedures with precision and care
• Collaborate with optometrists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care
• Maintain detailed and accurate patient records in accordance with medical standards
• Educate patients and their families on eye health, treatment options, and preventive care
• Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary
• Participate in on-site clinic sessions and provide coverage as scheduled
• Adhere to all safety, privacy, and regulatory guidelines
• Support the medical team with clinical expertise and responsive communication

Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution
• Board certification or active board eligibility in Ophthalmology
• Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of location
• Associate-level clinical experience in ophthalmology or relevant practice
• Strong proficiency in diagnosing and managing a variety of ophthalmic conditions
• Demonstrated surgical skills and experience with ophthalmic procedures
• Excellent patient communication and interpersonal abilities
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, on-site medical environment
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
• Willingness to adapt quickly to existing protocols and workflows
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
• Current CPR or BLS certification is preferred
• Shifts: Monday-Friday, 8a-5p in clinic or 7:30a-5p in OR

Schedule: 3 clinic days and 2 OR (cataracts) days per week

Rotating daytime call shifts

Clinic Volume: 20-30 patients per day

Surgical Volume: 9-12 cases per day

Duties: Exams, pre- and post-op consultations, and laser/procedures

Must be board-certified
