Locum MD (Medical Doctor), DO (Osteopathic Doctor) Neonatology

This on-site, contract position offers a unique opportunity to provide critical care for newborn patients in a dynamic medical practice environment. As a Locum Neonatologist, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to some of our most vulnerable patients.

In this role, you will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to manage the health and well-being of premature and critically ill newborns. Your expertise will directly impact patient outcomes and contribute to the continued excellence of our neonatal care services.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive medical care to premature and critically ill newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and related care settings
• Perform newborn assessments, diagnose conditions, and develop individualized treatment plans
• Manage ventilation, nutrition, and medication protocols for neonatal patients
• Collaborate with obstetricians, pediatricians, and nursing staff to ensure coordinated patient care
• Respond promptly to high-risk deliveries and provide resuscitation support as needed
• Document patient evaluations, treatments, and progress accurately in medical records
• Communicate effectively with families, providing education and emotional support during critical times
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance neonatal care standards
• Adhere to all medical protocols, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements
• Provide on-call coverage and support during scheduled shifts as required by contract terms

Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school
• Board certification or board eligibility in Neonatology
• Active, unrestricted medical license in the state of practice (or ability to obtain licensure)
• Completion of an accredited residency in pediatrics and fellowship in neonatology
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in neonatal care at an associate level or equivalent
• Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare teams
• Ability to work effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced clinical environments
• Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care and safety
• Willingness to work on-site in Mount Pleasant and adhere to flexible scheduling as required on a contract basis
• Level II NICU

Schedule: 24-hour shifts (8-10 hours in-house, remainder on-call)

Will provide telehealth consults for other Level II and Level I NICUs
