Locum :MD (Medical Doctor), DO (Osteopathic Doctor) Critical Care

 This is a contract position with an on-site working arrangement, offering a unique opportunity for a physician to deliver high-acuity patient care in a dynamic medical practice environment. As a locum provider, you will bring flexibility and expertise to a team committed to excellence in intensive care medicine.

In this role, you will serve as a key member of the critical care team, managing complex, life-threatening conditions across a diverse patient population. You will collaborate with intensivists, nurses, and multidisciplinary specialists to ensure the highest standards of clinical care, leveraging evidence-based practices and advanced diagnostic tools. Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive critical care management to patients in the ICU, including diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing monitoring of complex conditions.
• Perform and supervise invasive procedures such as central line placement, intubation, mechanical ventilation management, and hemodynamic monitoring.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including nurses, respiratory therapists, and consulting specialists, to coordinate patient care plans.
• Lead code blue and rapid response teams, ensuring timely and effective intervention during medical emergencies.
• Conduct daily patient rounds, documenting clinical findings and adjusting treatment protocols as necessary.
• Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing clear explanations of diagnoses, treatment options, and prognoses.
• Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines in all aspects of patient care.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and optimizing critical care delivery.
• Maintain accurate and thorough medical records in accordance with institutional and legal requirements.
• Provide mentorship and clinical guidance to residents, fellows, and mid-level providers as needed.

Requirements

• Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
• Board certification or board eligibility in Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonology, or a related subspecialty.
• An active, unrestricted medical license in the state of Kentucky or the ability to obtain licensure prior to start.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of clinical experience in critical care, intensive care, or emergency medicine settings.
• Advanced proficiency in ventilator management, hemodynamic support, and critical care pharmacology.
• Strong clinical decision-making skills with the ability to act swiftly and accurately under pressure.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with patients, families, and care teams.
• Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; additional critical care certifications (e.g., FCCS, CCRN) are preferred.
• Ability to work flexible on-site schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by locum coverage needs.

Schedule: 7a-7p or 8p-8a

Setting: Closed ICU units, 50 beds total

Daily Admissions Volume: ~12-15 patients

Procedures Required: Intubation, chest tube, bronchoscopy, etc.

Support Staff: RNs, Intensivists

EMR: Epic

Must be board-certified 

DEA, ACLS, and BLS required
