Position Description 

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) invites you to consider joining our team as a Temporary Licensed Practical Nurse, Correctional Health where you’ll become part of a dedicated, tight knit nursing team committed to delivering exceptional care in a complex correctional setting. Anoka County Jail nursing team is known for its professionalism, teamwork, and compassion — and you’ll be an essential contributor to that mission. As an LPN you will provide clinical care across intake, sick call, chronic care, and emergency situations. Your responsibilities include managing medications, coordinating external healthcare services, maintaining accurate medical records, and carrying out medical orders. This Temporary Licensed Practical Nurse role gives you the flexibility to choose when you work—only four shifts per month, including one weekend—while still making a meaningful impact. In this position, you’ll deliver essential care, support critical health needs, and help keep the facility running safely and smoothly through skilled assessments, medication management, accurate documentation, and clear communication. 

This is a temporary, part time, non-exempt, on-site position.  

Pay & Benefits 

• Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 32: $64,480.00 to $90,230.40 annually ($31.00 to $43.38 per hour).

Work Location 

• This position will work at the Anoka County Jail, located at 325 Jackson Street, Anoka, MN 55303.
• Expected work hours: The Jail is staffed 24/7, we are looking to fill all shifts with a combination of 8- and 12-hour shifts. 
• Minimum of 4 shifts per month, including 1 weekend per month. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities 
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Licensed Practical Nurse, Correctional Health.  

• Provide direct and indirect nursing care to meet the psychological, physical, and mental health needs of inmates. 
• Order, administer, and/or distribute prescribed medications as directed.  
• Prepare written records and reports and update charts containing information on treatments and procedures administered and observations regarding their condition. 
• Implement nursing care and medical orders in a knowledgeable, safe, and responsible manner.  
• Maintain all medical records related to health and medical screening and medical treatment administered to inmates while incarcerated. 
• Consult with the interdisciplinary health care team to coordinate treatment forts for individual care plans.
• Promote and demonstrate effective communication skills.  
• Provide on-call coverage consistent with facility policies and standards. 

Qualifications and Requirements: 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed 

• Requires accreditation from a technical school or applicable trades program and at least 2 years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience.  
• In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
• Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Minnesota.  
• Successfully pass an extensive criminal background investigation.  
   

 Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed 

• Previous correctional health or similar experience. 
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

• Standard office environment, correctional institution.
• Work activities may require contact with uncooperative, angry, and sometimes hostile clients depending on assignment.
• Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing. 
• Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades and brightness.
• Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.
• Physical activity may include repeated bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, and handling/carrying medical equipment. 
• Regular lifting of 0-25 lbs., occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. 
• Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment in addition to medical equipment.
• Exposure to bodily fluids, infectious agents, toxic or caustic chemicals, airborne particles, fumes, or other hazards is possible while performing essential duties.

No tattoos, scars or brands that qualify as "Unauthorized Tattoos" under the Sheriff's Office Policy 1044.3 are allowed under any circumstances by any member of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office.
