Licensed Mental Health Clinician

The Licensed Mental Health Clinician is a vital part of our Care team, providing telehealth behavioral health assessment, consultation, intervention, and care-transition support. This clinician works independently within their professional scope and is scheduled to work 32 hours per week.

This role serves patients across age groups, backgrounds, geographic regions, and levels of medical complexity. It requires sound clinical judgment, strong documentation, comfort managing multiple cases concurrently, and the ability to build rapport through video-based care.

Clinical responsibilities

• Triage and assess patients through telehealth within the clinician’s education, training, experience, license, and scope of practice.
• Complete comprehensive behavioral health assessments and provide mental health diagnoses, risk assessments, treatment recommendations, and care plans.
• Provide brief therapeutic interventions, crisis intervention, and clinical consultation appropriate to the patient’s needs.
• Initiate referrals to inpatient psychiatric care, outpatient behavioral health services, or other levels of care when indicated.
• Support care transitions until appropriate ongoing services are established.
• Document the assessment, clinical rationale, risk findings, recommendations, and plan in the electronic health record.
• Provide education to patients, families, and care-team members when appropriate.
• Build effective working relationships with patients, families, physicians, and other members of the care team.
• Manage multiple active cases and priorities while meeting documentation and follow-up expectations.
• Participate in quality review and ongoing improvement of the behavioral health program.

Professional and regulatory responsibilities

• Practice in accordance with the ethical code and standards applicable to the clinician’s profession, state scope-of-practice requirements, and applicable telehealth laws.
• Maintain working knowledge of state and federal requirements related to mental health care, abuse reporting, privacy, duty to warn or protect, and other relevant regulations.
• Maintain all required licenses and complete additional state licensure as needed. Organization covers approved licensing costs.
• Maintain a private, professional workspace with reliable high-speed internet for patient care.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in social work, professional counseling, marriage and family therapy, clinical or counseling psychology, or the degree required for the applicable independent clinical license.
• Active, unrestricted license in good standing as an independently practicing clinical social worker, professional or mental health counselor, marriage and family therapist, or clinical or counseling psychologist. Qualifying credentials include LCSW or LICSW; LPC, LPCC, LCPC, or LMHC; LMFT; or the equivalent independent license title used by the applicable state.
• The clinician’s education and license must permit independent assessment, diagnosis, and psychotherapy.
• At least three years of experience in a hospital or health care setting, supporting patients and caregivers in a hospital setting, or providing outpatient behavioral health services.
• 1+ years experience working with children or adolescents is preferred.
• Experience documenting in an electronic health record.
• Strong skills in clinical assessment, documentation, communication, organization, and clinical decision-making.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and respond within required timeframes.
• Comfort providing care and collaborating with colleagues in a fully remote environment.
• Demonstrated skills in customer service, conflict management, decision-making, collaboration, and team building.
• Ability to work within tight timeframes and meet strict deadlines.
• Broad knowledge and understanding of health care trends.
• Working knowledge of desktop software applications, including MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Willingness to obtain additional state licenses as needed.
• Sufficiently fluent in the English language to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position.

Licensure across states

• At hire, candidates must hold an active, unrestricted independent behavioral health license in at least one priority state: Washington, Alaska, California, Montana, Oregon, New Mexico, Ohio, or Texas. Additional licenses may be required based on patient and program needs.

How pay is determined

The compensation range is $ 68,000- $98,000 annually, based on a 32-hour-per-week schedule. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including relevant experience, education, skills, certifications, geographic location, and the scope and responsibilities of the role.
