Leaf Pick-Up Laborer – Seasonal-Street Department
Hours: 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. October-December
Looking for a seasonal opportunity that keeps you active and outdoors? Join the City of Fort Wayne Street Department and help keep our neighborhoods clean during leaf collection season. No previous experience is required.
What You'll Do
Work alongside the Street Department team to collect leaves and remove debris throughout the City. This is a hands-on, physically active position performed primarily outdoors.
Key Responsibilities
- Rake, sweep, collect, and remove leaves and other debris.
- Assist with general cleanup throughout assigned neighborhoods.
- Use hand tools and help operate equipment such as leaf vacuum machines.
- Safely perform physically demanding work, including bending, twisting, climbing, pushing, reaching, and regularly lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Follow all City safety procedures and work professionally with coworkers and the public.
What You Bring
- High school diploma or GED.
- No previous experience or training required.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Dependability, good judgment, and a willingness to work as part of a team.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying temperatures, humidity, rain, dust, grease, and loud conditions.
- A valid Indiana driver's license is recommended but not required.
Additional Requirements
- Hard-soled, steel-toe footwear is required.
- This position involves standing and walking for extended periods and sustained physical activity.
