Under the supervision of the School Age Childcare Coordinator, the Afterschool Lead Counselor provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring, while putting the quality and safety of our program at the utmost of importance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Operates in ratio of age group assigned and fulfills all of the responsibilities of a counselor plus:
Leading Rides in &/or Rides out if coordinator is pulled from that duty.
Helps lead weekly staff meetings and trainings
Helps plan components of afterschool.
Is a role model for Y policies and practices.  
Helps perform specific duties such as securing student medication as needed
Helps make weekly staff schedules.
Plan and create weekly specific group schedules
Performs head counts regularly
Creates Newsletters for parent interaction
Reports and records all behavioral and accident reports  
Communicate with parents regarding reports, announcements, financial invoices, etc.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:

Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law 
CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of  hire date.
Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate  program activities.
Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships  with people from different backgrounds.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.

Run, jump, lift, carry, push, as well as any other physical actions that are needed.
