Labor and Employee Relations Business Partner

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Labor and Employee Relations Business Partner based in United States.

This is a specialist-level Labor and Employee Relations role supporting teams across North America, including Canada and the United States.
You’ll lead complex and sensitive workplace investigations while providing practical guidance on employee relations, employment practices, and workplace conduct.
The role combines hands-on case management with strategic partnership, helping leaders and HR teams address risks and strengthen the employee experience.
You’ll serve as a trusted advisor on challenging situations, using sound judgment, discretion, and a solutions-oriented approach.
You’ll also identify trends across employee relations matters and translate insights into actions that reduce risk and improve organizational effectiveness.
The position offers opportunities to design and deliver training, coach HR professionals, and contribute to broader labor and employee relations initiatives.
This is a fully remote North American opportunity with occasional travel and meaningful exposure to complex, multi-business-unit environments.

Accountabilities

• Lead highly complex and sensitive employee relations investigations involving concerns such as discrimination, harassment, retaliation, policy violations, and other workplace matters.

• Gather and assess relevant evidence, conduct witness interviews, document findings, and prepare thorough investigation reports and executive-level summaries.

• Provide leaders and HR Business Partners with practical recommendations regarding investigation outcomes, corrective actions, conflict resolution, and risk mitigation.

• Serve as a subject-matter resource on employment laws and regulations, translating legal and policy requirements into practical guidance for business leaders and HR partners.

• Partner with HR Business Partners and business leaders to promote positive employee relations through early intervention, conflict resolution, consistent policy application, and proactive risk management.

• Identify recurring employee relations themes, trends, and emerging risks, recommending actions that improve the employee experience and reduce organizational exposure.

• Act as a trusted strategic advisor to assigned business units, providing insights related to employee engagement, productivity, organizational effectiveness, and retention.

• Stay current on labor and employee relations trends, legislation, emerging workplace issues, and leading practices, sharing relevant knowledge with internal stakeholders.

• Design, deliver, and continuously improve training programs covering topics such as conflict resolution, workplace conduct, and positive employee relations.

• Customize training materials and approaches for different business units, employee populations, and organizational needs.

• Evaluate training effectiveness through feedback and other appropriate measures, using findings to improve future programs.

• Lead functional projects and cross-functional initiatives related to labor and employee relations as required.

• Handle highly confidential employee information with discretion, sound judgment, and appropriate sensitivity.

• Travel periodically across North America, with travel expected to be up to approximately 15%.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.

• At least 7 years of experience in labor relations, employee relations, or closely related HR roles.

• Demonstrated experience conducting complex workplace investigations and managing sensitive, confidential information.

• Strong working knowledge of employment laws and regulations applicable across the United States, with the ability to apply them in practical business situations.

• Experience designing, delivering, or supporting employee relations and workplace training programs.

• Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate evidence and reach well-reasoned recommendations.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to advise senior leaders and facilitate difficult or sensitive conversations.

• Strong judgment, discretion, and independence when managing complex employee relations matters.

• Ability to build trusted relationships with leaders, HR Business Partners, and other stakeholders while maintaining appropriate objectivity.

• Strategic mindset with the ability to recognize patterns, anticipate risks, and translate employee relations insights into practical organizational actions.

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple complex matters and priorities effectively.

• Authorization to work in Canada or the United States.

• Nice to have: knowledge of Canadian employment law.

• Nice to have: Master’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business Administration, or a related discipline.

• Nice to have: experience supporting unionized or collective bargaining environments.

• Nice to have: professional certification such as SPHR, PHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP.

• Nice to have: experience working within public-company, global, multi-site, or multi-business-unit environments.
