Overview

A private family based in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, is seeking two exceptional, professionally trained Norland or equivalent career nannies to care for their three-year-old. The nannies will work together on a structured rotational schedule consisting of two weeks on/ two weeks off. The family is seeking candidates who combine the warmth, imagination and enthusiasm of a modern-day Mary Poppins with the professionalism, discretion, sound judgement and exceptional standards required within a high-net-worth private household.

This is an open-ended, long-term opportunity for two nurturing, highly qualified and developmentally focused nannies who genuinely enjoy working with young children and are comfortable living and working in the unique environment of Jackson Hole.

During the two-week 24-hour on-call period, the nanny on duty will stay in a designated guest room within the employer’s main residence. This arrangement will allow her to remain close to the child and respond promptly should he awaken during the night, feel unwell or otherwise require care or reassurance.

Being on call for 24 hours does not mean that the nanny will be actively working continuously for 24 hours each day. Rather, she will be the designated nanny throughout that period and must be available whenever reasonably required, including during evenings and overnight periods.

The family and its HR representative will explain the detailed timetable, handover procedures, overnight responsibilities, appropriate rest periods and any changes required during travel. All working arrangements will be documented in accordance with applicable employment requirements.

Accommodation

Both nannies will be provided with accommodation in the Annex House, located next door to the employer’s principal residence.

The Annex House is a fully furnished two-bedroom, two-bathroom residence. Each nanny will have:

● Her own private bedroom

● Her own private bathroom

● Shared use of the kitchen

● Shared use of the living room

● Shared use of the dining area

During the nanny’s two-week 24-hour on-call period, she will temporarily stay in a designated guest room (private bedroom and private bathroom) within the employer’s main residence so that she remains close to the child overnight.

Outside the 24-hour on-call period, the Annex House will serve as the nanny’s principal accommodation. Candidates may also choose to travel home to their primary residence.

The Annex House comes fully furnished. Should either nanny wish to bring or add personal furniture, this must first be discussed and agreed with the employers. The employers are accommodating and will consider reasonable requests.

Both nannies will be responsible for cleaning, maintaining and looking after the Annex House. Housekeeping or maid service will not be provided for the nanny accommodation. The accommodation must be treated respectfully and maintained to an appropriate standard throughout employment.

Responsibilities

The family is seeking warm, imaginative and nurturing nannies who can help the child become increasingly confident and independent without causing the child to feel rejected, ignored or unsupported.

Candidates must be skilled at positively redirecting and engaging a young child through conversation, learning, play and developmentally appropriate activities.

The family does not want sweets, mobile phones, television or other screens used as the default method of soothing, occupying or distracting the child.

The nannies should instead be enthusiastic about:

● Sitting and engaging with the child attentively

● Teaching the child through play, conversation and everyday experiences

● Reading and storytelling

● Organising creative and educational activities

● Encouraging age-appropriate confidence and independence

● Positively redirecting the child when the become unsettled or overly dependent

● Taking the child outdoors and allowing them to explore safely

● Spending time with the child in the garden

● Introducing the child to nature and the surrounding environment

● Teaching the child about animals and wildlife

● Planning stimulating, enjoyable and developmentally appropriate activities

● Supporting the child's emotional, social, intellectual and physical development

The ideal candidates will understand how to maintain healthy boundaries while still providing the child with warmth, affection, reassurance and a strong sense of security.

Parental Authority and Communication

The parents’ preferences and decisions concerning their child must always be respected.

The nannies must not independently make significant decisions concerning the child, his routine, development, care, activities or personal belongings without first raising the matter with the mother.

Any concern, idea or proposed change must be respectfully presented to the mother as an observation or suggestion—not as a decision that has already been made or implemented.

The nannies should feel comfortable sharing professional observations and recommendations, but the parents will retain final authority over all decisions concerning their child.

Communication must always demonstrate discretion, respect, sound judgement, sensitivity and the high professional standards expected by the family.

Dogs

Candidates must genuinely enjoy being around dogs and must not have a dog allergy.

A dog forms part of the child’s household and everyday environment. The successful candidates must therefore be comfortable interacting with and being around the dog regularly.

Wildlife and Outdoor Safety

Jackson Hole is home to significant wildlife, including bears and wolves.

The employers will provide comprehensive wildlife-awareness and safety training so that both nannies understand the necessary precautions, emergency procedures and expected standards when caring for the child outdoors. Candidates must be willing to undertake this training and consistently follow all household and local safety protocols. The child must never be taken into outdoor areas without appropriate consideration being given to the weather, surroundings, wildlife conditions and any safety guidance provided by the parents.

Qualifications

The family is looking for two outstanding nannies who will provide the child with consistency, security, affection and stimulating early-years experiences while respecting the parents’ values, preferences and authority.

Driving and Vehicles

Both nannies must hold valid driver’s licences and be confident, responsible drivers.

A suitably equipped vehicle will be provided while the nanny is on duty and driving for the child. The family’s on-duty vehicle will be properly prepared for winter conditions, including suitable winter tyres.

Jackson Hole winters can be extremely harsh, with heavy snow, ice and challenging driving conditions. Candidates must therefore be comfortable learning how to drive safely in severe winter weather.

The employers are happy to arrange and pay for appropriate winter-driving instruction or refresher training.

A nanny may bring her own vehicle, although suitable winter tyres are strongly recommended. Any personal vehicle will be parked outside at the Annex House, as covered or garage parking is not available.

The family-provided vehicle may be used while the nanny is on duty and carrying out duties relating to the child. It is not intended to serve as the nanny’s personal vehicle while she is off duty.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

● Formal Norland training and/ or recognised early-childhood education or early-years training

● Demonstrable professional experience caring for children of a similar age

● Current paediatric first-aid and CPR certification from the American Red Cross, or an equivalent recognised training provider accepted under the applicable requirements in Wyoming

● A commitment to maintaining all first-aid and CPR certifications throughout employment

● Excellent and verifiable professional references

● Previous experience working within a private or high-net-worth household

● A valid driver’s licence

● Legal authorisation to work in the United States

● Willingness to undergo an additional independent background check conducted by the employer’s HR team

● Experience working collaboratively with parents, other nannies and household staff

● A genuine love of dogs and no dog allergies

● Comfort living and working in a rural mountain environment

● Willingness to undertake winter-driving and wildlife-safety training

Background Checks and Vetting

The employers will require their HR team to conduct an additional independent background check on each candidate. This requirement will be disclosed clearly from the beginning of the recruitment process.
