Position Summary

The Nueva School is seeking a Head Coach and an Assistant Coach for the Middle School JV (5th/6th Grade) Boys' Soccer team. These seasonal positions prepare student-athletes for competition while fostering skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and an appreciation for athletic participation.

Season: January 5-March 12, 2027 (8 weeks)

Practice schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 3:30-5:00 p.m. Game-day responsibilities are also required.

A Day in the Life

As a Nueva soccer coach, you will arrive ready to create an engaging, supportive, and well-organized experience for our student-athletes. You may begin by reviewing the day’s practice plan, checking equipment, and connecting with the coaching team about individual and team development goals.

During practice, you will coach players individually and in groups, helping them strengthen their understanding of soccer rules, techniques, tactics, and game strategy. You will closely observe each player’s development, provide constructive feedback, and adjust activities based on the team’s abilities and needs.

Throughout practices and competitions, you will actively supervise student-athletes, reinforce high standards of behavior, and ensure that all safety and injury-response procedures are followed. On game days, you will help prepare the team, support strategic decisions, and encourage players to compete with confidence, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

You will also serve as a positive role model in every interaction with players, families, officials, colleagues, and spectators. By following all applicable athletic regulations and maintaining inclusive, nondiscriminatory practices, you will help create an environment where every student-athlete feels respected, supported, and excited to participate.

Primary Responsibilities 

Head Coach

Lead the overall planning and delivery of practices, competitions, and team strategy.
Coordinate the coaching staff and assign duties to the Assistant Coach as appropriate.
Serve as the primary point of contact for the athletics department and team families.
Other duties as assigned

Assistant Coach

Support the Head Coach's practice plans, game strategy, player instruction, and team supervision.
Complete assigned coaching and operational duties and communicate player development needs to the Head Coach.
Assume appropriate team responsibilities when requested by the Head Coach or athletics department.
Other duties as assigned.

 
: Required Qualifications

Knowledge of soccer rules, regulations, techniques, and strategies.
Effective coaching, communication, and instructional skills.
Ability to provide age-appropriate instruction to middle school student-athletes with varying skill levels.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with student-athletes, families, colleagues, and school administrators.
Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive athletic environment.
Ability to model professionalism, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
Availability to attend all required practices, games, and team activities.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience as a soccer coach or assistant coach at the middle school, high school, or club level.
Previous experience playing soccer at the high school, collegiate, club, or competitive level.
Experience working with middle school-aged students.
Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
Familiarity with student-athlete safety protocols and injury-response procedures.
Experience supporting an inclusive athletic program and working with students from diverse backgrounds.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly rate for this position is $33.00–$65.00 per hour for Head Coaches and $26.00–$59.00 per hour for Assistant Coaches. Individual compensation is determined based on several factors, including, but not limited to, the type and years of relevant coaching and professional experience, education, qualifications, and level of expertise.
