Invasive Specialist-CVL

Job Summary: The Invasive Specialist � CardioVascular Lab (CVL) performs designated direct and indirect patient care activities for inpatients and outpatients under the supervision of the registered nurse and physician in a fast-paced CVL licensed under Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC), a large academic tertiary care hospital with level one trauma designation, ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) receiving center designation, and Comprehensive Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center accreditation.  Assists with a variety of highly technical invasive cardiac, electrophysiology and vascular treatment and procedures for patients with simple to complex conditions and co-morbidities. Exhibits knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-specific and culturally appropriate patient-centered care. Meets qualifications and competencies as defined in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care. Makes necessary preparations prior to scheduled procedure, e.g., ensures room is stocked with required supplies and confirms supplies are within expiration dates, patient is prepped and positioned correctly for procedure, safety belt is applied, patient is draped for modesty. Calibrates, tests and performs quality control measures for equipment (monitors, transesophageal echocardiogram probes, vascular access units, attherectomy units, etc.) prior to procedure in accordance with scope of practice and department guidelines. Sets up the sterile field and performs proficiently in the scrub and circulator role. Points out breaks in the sterile field and processes and takes appropriate action for position. Monitors vital signs and notifies physician and registered nurse of any changes in cardiac rhythms, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygenation, adverse reactions, and other pertinent clinical symptoms or changes in baseline status. Records required procedural information in the designated electronic record system according to established policies. Participates on-call rotation based on business needs of the department. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited school of Cardiovascular Technology. Minimum of two years' diagnostic, interventional and special procedure lab experience required. Completion of basic arrhythmia recognition course required. Minimum of one year experience with Siemens Sensis and Syngo Dynamics equipment preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrates proficient competencies in cardiovascular lab procedures including electrophysiology and interventional procedures and devices. Thorough knowledge of healthcare regulations related to CVL and survey process required.  Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in cardiovascular lab procedures. Professional communication and behavior required. Able to: speak clearly, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, MacLab, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; organize and prioritize workload; be assertive and consistent in following and enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction, effectively problem solve; pay close attention to detail; recall information with accuracy; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place and patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certificate required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued through the American Heart Association required. Other certifications as specified in the department Plan for Providing Care.
