Description
Sustainment & Restoration Services (SRS) is a Native American, tribally-owned small business. We are a full-service, multi-discipline environmental, engineering, construction support, munitions response, and specialized professional services company wholly-owned by the Oneida Nation as a subsidiary under Oneida ESC Group.
Serving the federal market and civilian agencies, including US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), US Department of Defense, US Air Force, US Navy and Marine Corps, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), US Fish and Wildlife Service, and state and local customers. We collaborate with our customers to achieve long-term environmental stewardship goals with reduced life-cycle program costs.
SRS has an immediate opening for a Geologist/Chemist/Scientist Internship based in either our Santa Barbara, CA, or Ventura, CA, office for the Summer of 2027.
Key Responsibilities (under direct supervision):
- Review and understanding of all relevant work plans and health & safety plans prior to initiating field work.
- Responsible for field work preparation, including ensuring all necessary subcontracts are in place, all materials and equipment are in hand, and any training or reviews are completed beforehand.
- Fulfillment of data quality objectives (DQOs) for all field collected data and samples; responsible for data quality during pre-field preparations, field work execution, sample management, and documentation.
- Supervision of subcontractors (including, but not limited to, drilling and well installations), including all documentation.
- Lithologic/soil descriptions per standard references.
- Soil, groundwater, sediment, surface water, air, and waste characterization sampling per established protocols and approved sampling and analysis plans.
- Complete all required field documentation; provide to project manager or archive as directed.
- Data management, including but not limited to: data quality control from initial planning through final reporting, receives and reviews for accuracy and completeness electronic data deliverables from subcontracted laboratories and third-party data validators, produces tables and graphs using MS Excel and other software, performs database downloads and table formulation for reports, and
- Assists in writing reports, including sampling & analysis plans, data quality reports, sampling field reports, and other monitoring reports.
- Develop groundwater elevation contour maps, estimate gradients (horizontal, vertical), and flow directions, including analytical and digital modeling.
- Produce data visualization products (work with CADD/GIS on products).
- Provide project management support such as tracking schedules and preparing routine progress reports
- Support project procurement activities, including developing subcontractor scopes of work, researching subcontractors, pricing, tracking status of bids, and coordinating with the subcontract manager.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a four-year accredited university pursuing a degree in chemistry, geological or environmental sciences.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal), with a variety of individuals.
- Ability to exhibit a high degree of judgment and discretion in handling confidential information and situations.
- Problem solving ability.
- Demonstrate high standards of personal and professional integrity and work ethic.
- Must be a highly organized and detail-oriented team player.
- Knowledge in the use of the Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, MS Project) and Adobe Acrobat. GIS and CAD a plus.
- Must be able to pass Federal Background Check to gain access to project sites.
- Must be able to pass DMV check and maintain acceptable driving record.
- Must be able to pass initial drug test.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPPER training a plus.
