As a Wildlife Intern, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside experienced wildlife professionals, gain real-world field experience, and contribute to meaningful projects that impact wildlife populations and habitat management across thousands of acres.

Position Overview

Westervelt Wildlife Services is seeking a highly motivated Wildlife Intern for Summer 2027. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in wildlife management, habitat improvement, hunting lease operations, and land stewardship while working with professional wildlife biologists and recreation managers.

This role is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Wildlife Sciences, Natural Resources, Forestry, Conservation Biology, or related disciplines who are eager to apply classroom knowledge in real-world field settings.

The internship is based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. A housing allowance will be provided.

What You'll Learn

Throughout the summer, you'll gain exposure to:

• Wildlife habitat management and conservation practices
• Wildlife population monitoring and field data collection
• Hunting lease operations and recreational land management
• Habitat assessments and management planning
• Wildlife consulting and client engagement
• Forestry and wildlife interactions on managed landscapes
• Operation of equipment commonly used in wildlife management

Key Responsibilities

• Assist wildlife biologists with habitat evaluations and property assessments.
• Participate in wildlife monitoring, field surveys, and data collection efforts.
• Support implementation of habitat improvement projects for game and non-game species.
• Assist with hunting lease operations and customer service initiatives.
• Contribute to wildlife consulting projects and recreational land management plans.
• Collect, organize, and analyze field data to support management recommendations.
• Operate and maintain equipment including UTVs, tractors, and four-wheel-drive vehicles.
• Work safely in diverse outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
• Collaborate with wildlife professionals, foresters, recreation staff, and landowners on resource management initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Wildlife Sciences, Wildlife Biology, Natural Resources, Forestry, Conservation Biology, or a related field.
• Strong interest in wildlife conservation, habitat management, and outdoor recreation.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions.
• Good physical condition and willingness to perform field-based work.
• Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate four-wheel-drive vehicles.
• Strong work ethic, initiative, and willingness to learn.

Preferred

• Experience with hunting, wildlife management, forestry, or outdoor recreation activities.
• Familiarity with GPS, mapping applications, or wildlife monitoring techniques.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Interest in pursuing a career in wildlife management or natural resources.
