Intern for Development Operations & Data Analytics

DEPARTMENT:  Development Operations

REPORTS TO:  Deputy Director of Data, Information Systems, and Development Operations

STATUS:  Part-time up to 30 hours per week

TIMELINE:  October 2026 through October 2027

PRIMARY PURPOSE:  As the Development Operations and Data Analytics Intern, you will support the Deputy Director of Data, Information Systems, and Development Operations on grant-funded data, evaluation, and data quality activities focused on nutritional health, food insecurity, and Bread for the World’s Racial Wealth Gap Learning Simulation. You will gain experience working with publicly available data, Tableau, and Raiser’s Edge NXT (RENXT) to help create and maintain interactive resources, ensure records used for analysis and evaluation are accurate and complete, support state-level data collection, and inform program evaluation and reporting. The role emphasizes accurate, accessible, and well-documented analysis and data management for program and grant reporting. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

DATA ANALYSIS & EVALUATION:

• Identify and gather publicly available data related to food insecurity, nutritional health, demographics, and relevant public programs, including sources such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Census Bureau.
• Clean, transform, aggregate, document, and validate data for analysis, visualization, and reporting in Tableau.
• Assist with developing and maintaining interactive Tableau dashboards and customizable resources that track food, nutrition, and health metrics by year, demographic group, and geographic area.
• Update dashboards and related resources as new public data becomes available, and support monitoring of selected food, nutrition, and health metrics, and others as needed. 
• Assist with generating state-based factsheets from the U.S. Hunger Data Dashboard for Bread staff and members.
• Support data collection, analysis, quality assurance, and documentation for program evaluation and grant reporting, including activities related to the Racial Wealth Gap Learning Simulation as assigned.
• Prepare clear data summaries and visualizations for technical and nontechnical audiences and collaborate with Data, Policy & Research, and program staff.
• Participate in department and project meetings and work on additional grant-related data, evaluation, and visualization projects as requested.

DEVELOPMENT OPERATIONS & RAISER’S EDGE NXT SUPPORT:

1. Constituent Data Entry and Maintenance

• Enter, update, and maintain constituent records in Raiser’s Edge NXT (RENXT), including individual and bulk record updates. 
• Process address, phone number, email, demographic, and other constituent information updates. 
• Review constituent records for missing, incomplete, or inaccurate information and make necessary corrections. 
• Identify potential duplicate records and support data cleanup projects involving contact information and constituent coding. 

2. Data Imports and Cleanup

• Perform data imports using established procedures and templates.
• Review import exception reports, troubleshoot data issues, and make necessary corrections.
• Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure data updates and imports are accurate and complete. 

3. Administrative Support

• Assist with donor list preparation, data verification, and record organization.
• Support special projects related to constituent data maintenance and data quality.
• Complete other routine data management tasks as assigned.

You will gain practical data science, evaluation, and development data operations experience in a nonprofit environment, including data sourcing, data quality, data transformation, analysis, visualization, Raiser’s Edge NXT record maintenance, imports, documentation, constituent data management, and collaboration with internal partners. This internship will also provide experience translating complex food, nutrition, and health data into accessible resources for decision makers and community audiences.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

• Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree or a recent graduate in data analytics, data science, statistics, public health, public policy, nonprofit management, or a related field. 
• Experience with Tableau, Tableau Prep, and Power BI; dashboard experience is required.
• Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT (RENXT) preferred; experience with constituent record maintenance, data imports, or data cleanup is a plus. 
• Detail-oriented, organized, flexible, and able to meet deadlines while maintaining accurate documentation. 
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to follow established data procedures and documentation standards.
• Experience with tools used for daily schedule management and communication (Microsoft Outlook, Slack, and Zoom, or other comparable software.)
• Ability to clean, validate, interpret, and document data from public or administrative sources.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain data clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Willingness to learn and commitment to the mission of Bread for the World.
