KCE offers paid internships for students interested in gaining practical experience with a civil engineering and surveying firm. Depending on your area of study, experience, and our current project needs, internship assignments may support civil engineering, surveying, landscape architecture, GIS, environmental services, construction services, or related municipal work.

Assignments are based on your background, interests, and the needs of the team.

Position Details

•Paid, temporary internship with scheduling based on school commitments and KCE project needs

•In-person position based out of one of KCE's local offices

•Office and field assignments, including possible local travel, vary by discipline and project

•Interns and temporary employees are not eligible for remote work

•Submitting an application allows KCE to consider you for available internship opportunities; it does not guarantee an immediate opening

What You May Do

Intern assignments vary based on your academic background, experience, and the needs of the department. Your work may include:

•Assist with plans, drawings, calculations, reports, and project documentation.

•Support research related to properties, ordinances, permits, or regulatory requirements.

•Help organize field data, project files, maps, and technical information.

•Participate in site visits, field observations, survey work, or construction-related assignments as appropriate.

•Work with project teams and learn how assignments move from planning and design through review and construction.

What You Bring

We are looking for students who are curious, dependable, willing to learn, and ready to contribute as part of a team.

•Current enrollment in civil engineering, surveying, landscape architecture, GIS, environmental science, geology, construction management, or a related program.

•Interest in civil engineering, surveying, municipal services, or related technical work.

•Strong attention to detail and a willingness to ask questions and learn from feedback.

•Clear written and verbal communication skills.

•Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, or other relevant software is helpful but not required for every assignment.

Internship opportunities, work locations, schedules, and assignments vary based on current staffing and project needs. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the assigned KCE office or be willing to relocate before the internship begins. Candidates must currently be authorized to work in the United States. KCE is unable to provide employment visa sponsorship for internship positions at this time.
