Instrumental Studies Area Assistant (Woodwinds, Brass, Piano)

In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

• Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

• Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

• Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).

• Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.

• A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

• Federal Work Study student may apply.

• In good disciplinary standing.

• Must be located in the U.S.

Area Assistants within the Instrumental Studies department provide general administrative and communications support for the faculty within their assigned area, to help support the operations of regularly scheduled weekly classes, as well as performances and special events. Area Assistants are also integral to the success of the new student audition process, serving as proctors, alongside admissions staff, outside of audition rooms, and assisting to answer questions and extend a warm welcome to prospective students and their families.

Area Assistants must be proactive in their communications with the faculty and department chair, remain highly organized, and reliably fulfill duties as requested.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

While specific duties will vary by area and faculty request, general responsibilities can include:

• Attendance taking in large classes (e.g.performance seminars, pedagogy)

• Creation and organization of email and communication lists within that instrumental studies area

• Communicating with students in their assigned area, providing reminders and updates of student, faculty and guest artist recitals, masterclasses and other special events

• Preparing photocopies, picking up mail and delivering packages upon faculty request

• Assist faculty with classroom equipment (lighting, piano, projectors, etc.)

• Coordinate and assist in the creation of concert programs for studio and class recitals

• Moving and set up of equipment, sometimes including instruments, chairs and music stands, for select classes, rehearsals, performances and special events.

• Serve as a general assistant to the area faculty and department at all new student auditions, greeting and welcoming families and possible participation in area information sessions, as requested by Faculty Recruiting Heads

• Other minor administrative support tasks, as requested by the area faculty or department chair
