Instructional Designer / Technical Writer (Project Based)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Instructional Designer / Technical Writer (Project Based) based in United States.

This is a project-based opportunity for an experienced instructional designer or technical writer to create clear, engaging, and repeatable learning and process documentation. The role focuses on transforming source materials and operational knowledge into structured LMS course content, modules, lessons, assessments, and practical SOPs. You will leverage AI and LLM tools to accelerate content creation while applying strong human judgment, quality control, and instructional design principles. The engagement is fully remote, self-directed, and designed for independent end-to-end execution. You will establish reusable content standards, templates, prompts, and governance processes that support consistency and future scalability. The role also provides an opportunity to introduce AI-assisted video and content production workflows where they can improve learning outcomes. This is a fixed-scope engagement where you will propose your own approach, timeline, estimated hours, and cost.

Accountabilities

• Define content, instructional design, and documentation standards, along with a repeatable workflow for developing learning materials and process documentation.

• Transform source materials, subject-matter expertise, and operational knowledge into structured LMS content, including modules, lessons, learning objectives, activities, and assessments.

• Create clear, practical SOPs that document processes, roles, systems, inputs and outputs, decision points, escalation paths, and required procedures.

• Use AI and LLM tools to accelerate drafting, content structuring, and production while maintaining rigorous human review, accuracy, consistency, and quality control.

• Interview stakeholders and subject-matter experts to understand workflows and translate complex information into accessible, learner-friendly content.

• Identify processes and learning topics that would benefit from short training or walkthrough videos and recommend appropriate AI-assisted production workflows.

• Develop reusable templates, prompts, frameworks, and documentation assets to improve the efficiency and consistency of future content development.

• Establish practical procedures for content review, approval, versioning, maintenance, and ongoing updates.

• Take ownership of the full project scope independently, providing progress updates and collaborating with stakeholders or management when required.

• Prepare and deliver project outputs in accordance with the agreed scope, timeline, quality standards, and project requirements.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in instructional design, technical writing, learning content development, process documentation, or a closely related field.

• Hands-on experience using AI and LLM tools to support content generation, structuring, editing, research, or documentation workflows.

• Strong ability to interview stakeholders and subject-matter experts, understand operational workflows, and translate complex information into clear, structured, and actionable content.

• Strong written communication skills, attention to detail, organization, and ability to maintain consistency across multiple content formats.

• Ability to work independently and manage a fixed-scope project from planning through delivery with minimal day-to-day supervision.

• Experience creating LMS course content, instructional materials, SOPs, process documentation, or related learning assets.

• Familiarity with AI-powered content and video-authoring platforms such as Mindsmith, Synthesia, or comparable tools is highly desirable.

• Experience with LMS implementation, content governance, documentation standards, or knowledge-management processes is an advantage.

• Ability to define project scope, methodology, deliverables, assumptions, risks, estimated hours, timelines, and costs as part of an RFQ.

• A portfolio demonstrating relevant and comparable instructional design, technical writing, course development, or process documentation work.

• Willingness to sign an NDA and project agreement before receiving detailed project information and credentials.

• Willingness to undergo a background check as part of the engagement process.
