About the Role

SEIU Local 2015 is seeking a strategic, experienced, and results-oriented Industry Director to lead bargaining, contract campaigns, industry strategy, and representational work across multiple industries and bargaining units.

Reporting to the Statewide Deputy Director (or designee), the Industry Director leads a team of staff and is responsible for developing and executing bargaining strategies, leading contract negotiations, coaching bargaining teams, supporting organizing and contract campaigns, and strengthening the union’s ability to build worker power through collective action.

This position works closely with union officers, statewide leadership, regional teams, organizers, member leaders, and bargaining committees to advance industry goals, improve working conditions, negotiate strong contracts, and support the long-term growth of the union.

The ideal candidate brings deep labor relations expertise, extensive bargaining table experience, strong leadership skills, a commitment to the values and mission of SEIU Local 2015, and the ability to develop innovative strategies that advance member priorities and organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Bargaining & Contract Negotiations

Serve as Lead Negotiator (First Chair) in collective bargaining negotiations across multiple industries and bargaining units.
Develop and execute comprehensive bargaining strategies that advance member priorities, organizational goals, and statewide alignment to improve standards across all industries.
Draft, review, analyze, and negotiate collective bargaining agreements, memoranda of understanding, and related documents.
Support bargaining committees through preparation, training, strategic planning, leadership development, capacity building, and execution.
Analyze industry trends, employer proposals, and labor market conditions to inform bargaining strategies.
Partner with union leadership to establish bargaining objectives and contract campaign priorities.

Contract Campaigns & Worker Power

Lead and support contract campaigns that engage members and build workplace power.
Collaborate with Organizing, Political, Communications, and Regional teams to develop integrated campaign strategies.
Identify opportunities to leverage organizing, political, and community support during bargaining efforts.
Develop plans to increase member engagement and participation throughout contract campaigns.
Support escalation strategies and collective actions designed to achieve bargaining goals.

Leadership & Team Development

Recruit, develop, coach, and supervise Industry staff and bargaining teams.
Lead the union's commitment to becoming an anti-racist organization by supporting cross-difference solidarity and fostering a culture of belonging.
Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship on bargaining strategy, labor relations, contract administration, and campaign execution.
Establish clear performance expectations and accountability measures.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.
Develop staff and member leaders across the union by collaborating with other departments to design, deliver, and facilitate bargaining training, leadership development, and capacity-building for staff and bargaining committee members.
Partner with other departments to develop and deliver bargaining training for staff, member leaders, and bargaining committee members across the union.

Representation & Labor Relations

Provide strategic guidance on grievances, arbitrations, contract enforcement, and representational matters.
Partner with Regional staff and member leaders to resolve complex workplace and contract issues.
Ensure consistency in contract interpretation and enforcement practices.
Maintain knowledge of labor laws, regulations, and emerging industry trends affecting represented workers.
Support statewide labor-management initiatives and industry-wide strategies.

Strategic Planning & Organizational Leadership

Lead industry programs that support the union's organizational priorities, including political, legislative, membership, COPE, leadership development, and growth initiatives.
Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and best practices for Industry operations.
Utilize data, reporting, and industry analysis to inform decision-making and measure success.
Prepare reports and recommendations for union leadership and officers.
Oversee and monitor the department's budget.
Serve as a liaison between Industry, union leadership, member leaders, State Council, International Union leadership, employers across all industries, and external consultants.

Qualifications

Minimum of 10 years of experience in representational work, labor relations, internal organizing, or contract administration.
Minimum of 5 years of First Chair collective bargaining experience across multiple industries or bargaining units.
Minimum of 5 years of experience leading teams and supervising staff.
Demonstrated experience developing and executing successful bargaining and contract campaign strategies.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively, with sound judgment and discretion, in politically sensitive and high-pressure environments.
Experience drafting, negotiating, and interpreting collective bargaining agreements.
Strong knowledge of labor law, including the NLRA, PERA, FLSA, and related labor regulations.
Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and competing priorities.
Exceptional written, verbal, facilitation, and presentation skills.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
A strong commitment to building a progressive labor movement and organizing the unorganized.
