Indoor/Outdoor Moderated Video Data Collection Study [Facial Image & Mask Creation] - San Francisco

Location: San Francisco, CA 

Project Overview 

We are seeking participants for a large-scale, moderated, in-person video data collection study designed to support the development and evaluation of AI technologies. 

This is a paid indoor and outdoor study where participants will record short selfie videos while performing simple, natural actions such as sitting, standing, lying down, and moderate/brisk walking. All recordings will be completed using secure, client-provided devices under the guidance of trained moderators. 

As part of this study, participants will also be asked to have their photos taken. These photographs will be used to create physical and digital facial replicas, including 3D-printed, latex, silicone, paper, and digital face masks, which will be used to create anti-spoofing videos and develop anti-spoofing technologies. 

The purpose of this research is to help improve AI systems in a responsible, inclusive, and representative manner. 

What You'll Be Asked To Do 

Live Session 

Participants will: 

• Have a photo taken of them. 

• Record a short selfie video (under 30 seconds). 

• Perform simple head movements and introduction prompts [Introduction Videos] 

• Pick up the device from a pocket, bag, table, or chair to begin recording. [Natural Action Videos] 

•  Record multiple videos at different distances from the device. 

All Sessions 

Participants will: 

• Follow specific positioning and lighting instructions. 

• Use secure, client-provided devices. 

• Be guided by trained moderators throughout the session. 

Key Requirements 

Participants should be: 

• Comfortable being recorded in structured indoor and outdoor environments. 

• Comfortable performing activities while sitting, standing, moderately or briskly walking, and lying down. 

• Comfortable wearing accessories during designated sessions. 

• Available to attend an in-person session. 

• No prior experience is required.

We are actively recruiting participants across: 

• All 4 age groups (18-24, 25-44, 45-64, 65+) 

• All genders are welcome to participate (including non-binary participants) 

• All skin tone categories 

• Diverse hair styles, lengths, and colors. 

We are particularly seeking representation from individuals identifying with the following ethnicities: 

African, Middle Eastern/North African, Indigenous Peoples of North America, East Asian, European, Latin American, Pacific Islander, South Asian, Southeast Asian, and other backgrounds.

Participants may select multiple ethnic identities if applicable. 

Authentic and balanced representation is essential for this study. 

Application 

As part of the screening process, applicants may be asked to provide a recent selfie or 

photograph. 

Compensation 

Participants will receive an incentive of $150 via PayPal within 10 days after completion of the study. 

Location 

This is an in-person indoor and outdoor study

• All participants must sign an Informed Consent Form (ICF). 

• Sessions are moderated and supervised. 

• Participation is voluntary, and participants may withdraw at any time prior to completing the study, subject to the terms outlined in the consent documentation.
