Indian Head School- Group Leader

Monday through Friday 7AM till the start of school and/or 2PM to 6PM 

As a Group Leader, you’re more than a staff member—you’re a role model, cheerleader, teammate, and memory-maker! Every day brings something new, from epic games and crazy challenges to creative activities, laughter, friendships, and those little moments that kids remember forever.

In this leadership role, you'll inspire children through positive role modeling, exciting activities, and meaningful connections while helping ensure our program runs smoothly and safely. You'll work alongside a passionate team dedicated to making every child feel valued, included, and empowered.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

•  Minimum of 18 years of age and have 6 months school age experience. 
•  Have a High School diploma or equivalent.
•   CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required- Willing to Train 
•   Evidence of physical examination within last 12 months.
•   Negative Mantoux TB test and immunity for measles, mumps, and rubella.
•  Ability to create and sustain a culture of excellence and work and thrive as part of a cohesive team.
• Ability to lift/move heavy equipment and clean when necessary.
• Will sometimes work early morning, late nights and weekends.
• Strong oral communication skills required for occasional public speaking responsibilities.
• Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift up to 75lbs on occasion and 40lbs frequently (children) and move intermittently during work hours.
• Ability to thoroughly understand Y-USA's three focus areas: Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility; proven ability to identify and meet the needs of the health seeker

Program Responsibilities

• Understand and follow all EEC regulations and Old Colony Y policies, including Child and Youth Care, Child Guidance, Health Care, and other applicable policies.
• Assist the Site Coordinator with planning, developing, and implementing engaging, age-appropriate program curriculum.
• Help ensure lesson plans and activities reflect the individual needs, interests, abilities, disabilities, talents, cultural backgrounds, and learning styles of the children in the program.
• Provide leadership and support during daily activities, including:
• Y Chat
• Homework Help
• STEM activities
• Arts and crafts
• Group games and activities
• Long-term projects
• Program set-up and clean-up
• Support and maintain QRIS standards and program quality expectations.
• Supervise children throughout program areas, field trips, special events, and other program activities.
• Act as a positive role model for children and staff and help create a respectful, supportive, and engaging environment.
• Maintain appropriate child behavior while following the YMCA Child Guidance and Child Care policies.
• Communicate behavior, safety, or other concerns to the Site Coordinator in a timely and professional manner.
• Build positive relationships with children, families, school personnel, and community members.
• Act in a professional and positive manner when communicating with parents, school personnel, and potential clients.
• Represent and promote YMCA programs through positive interactions, public appearances, and presentations. Use good judgment and professionalism when representing the YMCA, including on social media and other public platforms.
• Assist with completing required documentation, including accident reports, incident reports, attendance records, and other program paperwork.
• Assist with maintaining accurate attendance records and ensuring required reports are completed.
• Meet with the Site Coordinator as directed.
• Assist with staffing other school-age locations or programs when needed.
• Provide  support during weekly site staff meetings and monthly School Age meetings.
• Participate in professional development opportunities, including training, conferences, and courses.
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships with school personnel and other site-specific partners.

Supervision & Staff Support

• Assist the Site Coordinator with weekly staff meetings and team communication.
• Attend mandatory training sessions and required staff meetings.
• Provide guidance, support, and coaching to Group Leaders and other program staff.
• Assist with training, supervising, and evaluating school-age staff and volunteers as directed by the Site Coordinator.
• Help model and reinforce YMCA policies, procedures, expectations, and best practices.
• Support a positive and collaborative team environment.

Fiscal & Enrollment Responsibilities

• Support efforts to maintain and achieve maximum program enrollment.
• Assist with the YMCA Annual Campaign and other fundraising initiatives.
• Follow all YMCA fiscal policies and procedures, including purchase orders and employee expense procedures.
• Communicate any financial or enrollment concerns to the Site Coordinator.

Facility & Housekeeping Responsibilities

• Help maintain a clean, organized, welcoming, and safe program environment.
• Assist with program set-up, clean-up, and organization of materials and equipment.
• Communicate facility, maintenance, or safety concerns to the appropriate staff member in a timely manner.
• Help ensure equipment and supplies are used safely and appropriately.

Community, Volunteer & YMCA Responsibilities

• Participate in assigned committees, YMCA initiatives, and the Annual Campaign.
• Promote YMCA programs through positive interactions with families, community members, public appearances, and presentations.
• Maintain professionalism when representing the YMCA, including at school events, community activities, and on social media.
• Complete at least 20 hours of childcare-related training annually.
• Support the YMCA's commitment to Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.
