Hackley School’s Music Institute program seeks an Independent Contracted Piano Instructor to provide individualized instruction to students K-12 on a weekly basis through the school year–September through May, excluding school holidays and winter and spring breaks. During the year, instructors may be invited to coach or play with ensembles/orchestras/bands and are compensated at the hourly rate.
Lessons take place on Hackley campus Monday-Thursday, 2:30-6:30pm, Friday, 2:20-6:30pm.
Specific Responsibilities
Prepare an individually tailored lesson plan for each student
Be ready to teach for the full allotment of time for each lesson
Have whatever music or lesson material needed for each lesson prepared in advance
Describe and demonstrate best practices in practice and performance skills
Maintain timely correspondence with parents, students (if applicable), and administration
Maintain lesson logs for each student on a daily basis (provided to you through Google Drive)
Attend faculty meetings as requested
Maintain standards of conduct set out in School Code of Conduct as well as Discrimination/Harassment training
Qualifications: Qualifications
Master’s degree in music or music education preferred
Minimum of five years’ professional teaching experience
Skills and Abilities
Commitment to developing students’ skills, understanding, and appreciation for the instrument, and for music
Puts well-being and education of students first
Collaborates well with administration and fellow faculty members
Communicates effectively and in a timely manner with students and their parents
Competent in using Google Drive folders and sheets
Salary:
Compensation is based on lesson times:
30-minute lesson: $46.50
40-minute lesson: $60
60-minute lesson: $81.00
About The Music Institute:
The Music Institute at Hackley School was created in 1974 to offer students private and group music lessons on campus, in addition to our curricular music program. Parents and faculty, as well as students and adults from the surrounding community, also have access to our offerings.
Instructors arrange a course of study that is suited to each student’s individual needs. They offer comprehensive lessons in both classical and jazz, as well as–depending on the instrument–musical theater and contemporary music. Our pedagogic approach to learning an instrument, in addition to developing the skills required to play it, focuses primarily on learning music theory, sight reading, and ear training, but can also explore improvisation, composition, and music production.
We have access to a brand new, state-of-the-art facility featuring two large performance spaces (550-seat Music Hall, and 100 seat Black Box theater), and numerous practice studios for instruction. These immaculate music studios are acoustically treated to reduce unwanted reverberation and keep sound that reaches their exterior to a minimum–an ideal environment for focused, high-quality instruction.
