About the Role

As an Entry-Level Immigration Attorney, you will work closely with experienced immigration attorneys while gradually developing the skills necessary to independently manage an immigration caseload.

You will assist with removal defense matters, immigration court proceedings, humanitarian applications, legal research, client consultations, and case strategy development. This position provides significant opportunities to gain litigation experience and develop expertise in immigration law.

Primary Responsibilities

• Represent clients before USCIS and Immigration Court under attorney guidance.
• Appear at Master Calendar Hearings and other scheduled court proceedings.
• Assist with asylum, adjustment of status, family-based immigration, U Visas, VAWA, SIJS, and other humanitarian immigration matters.
• Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda.
• Draft motions, briefs, declarations, applications, and supporting legal documents.
• Prepare clients for interviews, hearings, and consultations.
• Analyze client eligibility for immigration benefits and relief.
• Work closely with legal assistants and paralegals to ensure efficient case management.
• Maintain regular communication with clients regarding case progress and next steps.
• Develop litigation strategies under attorney supervision.
• Monitor deadlines and ensure timely case progression.

• Successfully manage an assigned immigration caseload.
• Develop confidence in Immigration Court appearances.
• Strengthen legal writing, advocacy, and litigation skills.
• Build strong relationships with clients and community partners.
• Demonstrate high-quality client service and legal representation.
• Gain proficiency in USCIS and EOIR procedures.
• Become a trusted advocate for immigrant families.

Qualifications

Required

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction.
• Interest in Immigration Law and litigation.
• Strong legal research and writing skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Willingness to attend Immigration Court hearings in Memphis, Tennessee.
• Commitment to serving immigrant and multicultural communities.

Preferred

• Bilingual in English and Spanish. (note required)
• Clinical, internship, externship, or volunteer experience in immigration law.
• Familiarity with USCIS, EOIR, or humanitarian immigration matters.
• Prior courtroom, mock trial, or advocacy experience.
