What will you be doing?

B.W. Furlong & Associates is looking to add a Hospital Imaging Assistant to our team. This position is ideal for someone who is looking to begin a career in equine veterinary medicine as a technician, but first needs to develop or expand technical skills. The Hospital Imaging Assistant will work with the Imaging Technician, Hospital Technicians, Veterinarians and Interns to ensure patients receive exceptional care. Duties include assisting the Imaging Technician with the preparation of horses for the CT, standing MRI and Bone Scan, performing the examinations, maintaining records, bathing and grooming and recovering the horses to return them to their agents. Other duties include assisting the Hospital Technicians with administering medications, running fluids, updating doctors with patient status (vital parameters, etc), and processing lab work. Specific responsibilities may be expanded or modified based on the skills and abilities demonstrated, but responsibilities would broadly include oversight of patient treatments and assisting with in-house lab processing.

The ideal candidate has exceptional horsemanship skills from having worked with a number of horses. They will enjoy working with a team, learning something new every day, and will have a passion for providing world class care for our patients and clients.
 

Work hours are 8am- 5pm, Monday – Friday. Additional hours and on-call shifts may be required periodically based on business need. The position is full time and based in Oldwick, NJ.

Qualifications: Responsibilities

Support the imaging team by: prepping the patients pre/post procedure including, but not limited to jogging patients or lunging, becoming familiar with imaging protocols, and understanding the workflow of imaging, safely applying restraint techniques for procedures, and generating treatment plans for patients admitted for imaging  
Exceptional horse handling skills of all types and ages, including maneuvering sedated horses  
When not assisting with imaging cases, assist the hospital team with the following: patient care (assisting with treatments), hand-walking, grooming, feeding, mucking stalls, cleaning feed & water buckets and processing lab work as needed 
Ambulatory assistance may occur and will require assisting the ambulatory veterinarian with their appointments, stocking inventory as needed, loading, unloading and transferring of equipment
Assist hospital veterinarians as needed with in-clinic exams/procedures including, but not limited to gastroscopy exams, lameness evaluations (handling, lunging, jogging), diagnostic imaging
Utilize practice management software to maintain patient medical records, boarding reservations, and treatment plans
Cleaning, maintaining, and transferring images on hospital equipment including but not limited to endoscopy units, ultrasounds, and digital radiography units
Adhere to all biosecurity protocols, such as correct use of protective gear, proper cleaning and sterilization of instruments and equipment, and appropriate disposal of materials and inventory 
Capable of heavy lifting of approximately 50 pounds, such as hay bales, feed bags, water and muck buckets 
Assist in the maintenance of hospital grounds
Special projects and additional responsibilities as needed
