Hyper-V Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Infrastructure Engineer with deep expertise in Hyper-V virtualization and enterprise infrastructure engineering. This is a true engineering-focused role centered on designing, building, and optimizing large-scale virtualization platforms rather than providing day-to-day production support.

The ideal candidate will possess strong infrastructure fundamentals across virtualization, storage, networking, automation, and Windows Server technologies. You will help design platform standards, architect scalable solutions, and drive infrastructure modernization initiatives across enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Architecture & Design

• Design and maintain enterprise-scale Hyper-V cluster architectures.
• Develop reference architectures, standards, and best practices for virtualization platforms.
• Evaluate infrastructure performance across compute, storage, networking, and virtualization layers.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and engineering decision records.
• Assess hardware configurations and infrastructure designs to ensure optimal platform performance and scalability.

Virtualization & Platform Engineering

• Engineer and support highly available Hyper-V environments, including failover clustering and live migration.
• Optimize virtual infrastructure performance, capacity, and resiliency.
• Plan and execute platform upgrades, patching strategies, and infrastructure lifecycle initiatives.
• Implement storage and networking solutions that support large-scale virtualized workloads.

Automation & Infrastructure as Code

• Develop automation solutions for provisioning, configuration management, compliance, patching, and decommissioning.
• Create and maintain PowerShell-based automation tools and workflows.
• Drive infrastructure-as-code and configuration management best practices.
• Support CI/CD processes for infrastructure automation and platform deployments.

Performance & Reliability Engineering

• Analyze system performance and identify opportunities for optimization.
• Perform capacity planning and infrastructure benchmarking.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across virtualization, storage, networking, and Windows Server environments.
• Contribute to service reliability, scalability, and operational excellence initiatives.

Collaboration & Technical Leadership

• Provide technical mentorship, design reviews, and engineering guidance.
• Partner with infrastructure, security, operations, and architecture teams.
• Contribute to technical standards, engineering documentation, and platform strategy.
• Promote automation, innovation, and continuous improvement across engineering teams.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, systems engineering, or enterprise platform engineering.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft Hyper-V in enterprise environments.
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Windows Server Administration
  • Hyper-V Failover Clustering
  • Live Migration
  • Virtual Networking
  • Storage Technologies and Performance Optimization
  • Enterprise Networking Concepts
• Experience with infrastructure automation using PowerShell and related tools.
• Strong understanding of cloud and hybrid infrastructure design patterns.
• Experience with configuration management and automation frameworks.
• Ability to evaluate infrastructure performance and architect scalable solutions.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with:
  • PowerShell Desired State Configuration (DSC)
  • SCCM, Ansible, or similar automation platforms
  • Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC)
  • Storage Spaces Direct (S2D)
  • Microsoft System Center technologies
• Working knowledge of C# and .NET.
• Experience with additional virtualization platforms such as VMware or KVM.
• Familiarity with enterprise storage benchmarking and performance testing tools.
• Knowledge of security compliance, vulnerability remediation, and infrastructure governance.
• Experience supporting large-scale data center environments.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jersey City, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $85.00 - $140.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
