YOUR NEXT OPPORTUNITY:

The HV Project Engineer is responsible for overseeing project Substation and Transmission Line Designs from a technical engineering perspective to ensure that project complies with the project requirements and all engineering IEEE/ANSI standards, applicable codes, and the scope of work. 

The HV Project Engineer should have knowledge of most aspects of MV/HV electrical engineering – as an example, while not conducting the work, the individual should be able to review and comment on any of the below with minimal support from other engineering staff:

·       HV Transmission and Substation SLD/Layouts

·       Ampacity, short circuit, and protection coordination studies

·       Technical studies such as harmonics, transients, Ampacity, Short Circuit, Load Flow, Grounding, and any other study to the HV and MV field 

The ability to assume responsibility, interface, and coordinate with others is required as portions of the engineering effort will be subcontracted out which is managed by the HV Engineering PM.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES – HV SUBSTATION AND TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS:

• Select, scope, and oversee subcontractors or internal engineering resources assigned to your work or project. In this instance, the individual must be comfortable and capable to supervise a design group of 1-4 subcontractors for a single project.

• Assist in reviewing contracts for potential pitfalls or highlight obligations of REI to the client

• Assist REI Project Management in selection of equipment and securing of long lead items.

• Assist or perform preliminary designs for prospective projects that REI is pursuing.  This would require being capable of developing a SLD and GA from scratch for estimating purposes.

• Review, comment, and oversee a HV design performed by others as well as equipment procured by REI.  Knowledge of how to specify the relative BIL, voltage withstands, S/C electrical and mechanical ratings… is required to perform the reviews.

• Develop and communicate conceptual SLD, Layout, transmission lines with little to no support.  To support estimating, contract closeout, or BD this task sometimes requires documents generated in 2-4 days.

• Possess a concept of installed costs of typical substation and transmission components to conduct value engineering functions as it relates to construction and general knowledge of costs of equipment

• Back-check for quality assurance the work of design packages assembled by subcontractors.

• Work closely with the Rosendin Project Manager to coordinate the design criteria with budgetary issues.

• In instances prior to contract award, assist the closeout team with review and markup of contract documents and in some cases represent REI in a client facing position of calls.

• Assist in Marketing of the firm.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Oversee junior engineers, designers, and staff assigned to your work or team. In this instance, an Engineer II would feel comfortable and capable of leading projects of limited scope.
• Review, comment, and process equipment and system submittals in coordination with the Engineer of Record.
• Generate electrical specifications appropriate for the project.
• Develop a complete and accurate sequence of operations for all designed systems.
• Working knowledge of equipment and system testing and commissioning.
• Perform process coordination between architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, project management, field, and all electrical trades.
• Prepare designs, check, and specify power, lighting, and auxiliary systems for photovoltaic (PV), distributive generation (DG), battery energy storage systems (BESS), or medium voltage (MV) systems.
• Prepare power system single-line diagrams, including feeder, overcurrent protection sizing, and equipment elevations.
• Conduct short circuit, overcurrent protection device coordination studies, and Arc Flash mitigation Studies.
• Perform calculations to determine distribution capacity due to voltage drop, voltage droop, or underground heat effect(Neher-McGrath).
• Coordinate your work with the project Specifications or equipment manufacturers.
• Visit job sites to field survey existing electrical conditions.
• May include on-site field assignments
• Utilize engineering analysis programs and professional judgment to analyze loads, energy production, lighting levels, and short circuit currents.
• Conduct value engineering functions.
• Gain comfort leading project design team meetings. Interface with various team members, particularly the client, architect, subcontractors, and engineers from other trades.
• Research and resolve drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences, and errors.
• Represent the design group during the construction to ensure the operations team is provided with proper and timely information for installation. This will include attendance at Owner and Contractor meetings.
• Assist in Marketing of the firm.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

• Ability to work on multiple projects at any time.  Designs can be 3-6 months in duration with multiple proceeding at the same time while supporting estimating with bid packages
• Fluency with remote productivity software such as Box, Cisco, GoTo Meeting…
• Must have working knowledge of AutoCAD
• Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
• Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, and other
• Willingness to learn new engineering software such as ETAP, EZPower, and Cymcap, etc.
• Fluency with IEEE Standards, having been familiar with a good foundation but more so the ability to research and learn new standards

WHAT YOU BRING TO US:

• A four-year degree from an accredited university or college in engineering or construction sciences

• 2-4 years of experience with electrical engineering design or engineering management with MV collection, substation and/or transmission line for renewable or utility projects.

• The ability to assume responsibility, interface, and coordinate with others is essential, as is the ability to analyze and resolve complex engineering problems

• Can be a combination of education, training and relevant experience

• PE or EIT is preferred

TRAVEL:

• 10-15%. Quarterly travel to Anaheim for in-person meetings, team coordination, or training, attending factory acceptance tests, or occasional construction site visits.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• General work environment – sitting for long periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is conducted primarily indoors with varying environmental conditions such as fluorescent lighting and air conditioning
• Noise level is usually low to medium; it can be loud on the jobsite.

Pay Range

$91,900.00-$120,600.00 Annual

The pay range for this role is what we expect to pay for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this job description. Candidate’s pay can vary based on location, job-related experience, skills, and education.
