Human Resources Generalist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Human Resources Generalist based in the United States.

This fully remote role offers the opportunity to support employees and managers across the complete employee lifecycle.
Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, you will serve as a trusted HR resource within a collaborative, small-team environment.
The position covers a broad range of functions, including payroll, employee relations, benefits, compliance, performance management, recruiting, and HR operations.
You will provide practical guidance to managers while helping employees navigate important workplace processes and programs.
The role also contributes to improving HR systems, policies, reporting, and processes across a distributed organization.
Success requires strong judgment, discretion, organization, and the ability to build trusted relationships at every level.

Accountabilities

• Serve as a primary point of contact for employees and managers on HR matters, including policies, benefits, leave, performance management, and employee relations.

• Provide practical guidance to managers on employee development, performance feedback, corrective actions, and day-to-day people matters.

• Conduct and support employee relations inquiries and workplace investigations while ensuring concerns are handled consistently, objectively, and confidentially.

• Handle sensitive employee information with discretion, fairness, sound judgment, and integrity.

• Administer employee benefits programs, including health and welfare plans and open enrollment, while coordinating with brokers and third-party vendors.

• Process and audit payroll through Paylocity, including employee changes, earnings, deductions, reimbursements, bonuses, and benefit deductions.

• Resolve payroll discrepancies, coordinate required approvals, and help ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time.

• Partner with Talent Acquisition to support hiring activities and deliver a consistent candidate and new-hire experience.

• Conduct exit interviews and coordinate offboarding activities while gathering feedback that can inform HR improvements.

• Support the development and maintenance of job descriptions, job-leveling frameworks, and compensation structures.

• Coordinate performance review processes by providing guidance, tools, and training to managers and employees.

• Support training initiatives covering performance management, manager effectiveness, compliance, and employee engagement.

• Ensure HR programs, policies, practices, and documentation comply with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.

• Monitor employment law and regulatory developments and recommend appropriate updates to policies and procedures.

• Prepare and analyze HR reports and workforce data to identify trends, support decision-making, and identify opportunities for improvement.

• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of HR processes, templates, programs, systems, and employee resources.

• Collaborate with HR colleagues and cross-functional partners to deliver consistent, responsive, and high-quality HR services.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

• At least 5 years of progressive HR experience supporting employees and managers across areas such as payroll, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, compliance, and HR operations.

• Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employee lifecycle processes, and applicable federal and state employment laws.

• Demonstrated experience processing and auditing payroll through an HRIS or payroll platform, including employee changes, earnings, deductions, reimbursements, and corrections.

• Experience using an HRIS to manage core HR activities such as onboarding, benefits administration, performance management, reporting, and employee data.

• Strong judgment and discretion when handling confidential or sensitive employee matters.

• Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships throughout an organization.

• Ability to work effectively in a fully distributed and remote environment while collaborating with HR colleagues and cross-functional teams.

• Experience supporting HR functions within a government contracting environment is preferred.

• Proficiency with Paylocity, particularly payroll processing, time and attendance, employee data management, onboarding, benefits administration, reporting, and troubleshooting, is preferred.

• Experience working within an employee-owned or ESOP organization is preferred.

• Experience supporting distributed workforces in consulting, health IT, or professional-services environments is preferred.
