HRIS Product Owner

TEKsystems is seeking an experienced Senior Product Owner to assist in the evolution of our HR technology ecosystem, with a primary focus on Workday and related HR platforms.

This role sits within the Human Resources department, in Omaha, NE serving as the strategic bridge between HR business leaders, end users, and technology delivery teams. The Senior Product Owner will be responsible for prioritizing work, managing the product backlog, and driving delivery of solutions that enhance the employee experience and enable HR operational excellence.

The ideal candidate brings a strong combination of HR technology expertise, Product Ownership experience, Project Management, Agile delivery practices, and stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to translate business objectives into scalable technology solutions.

What You'll Do

Product Strategy & Vision

Assist in championing the product vision, roadmap, and strategy for HR technology solutions, with a strong focus on Workday and associated HR systems.

Partner with HR leaders, HR SMEs and stakeholders to understand business priorities, identify opportunities for improvement, and translate needs into actionable product initiatives.

Ensure product investments align with organizational goals, employee experience objectives, and HR operational priorities.

Act as the voice of the customer and end user throughout the product lifecycle.

Evaluate business needs, risks, dependencies, and opportunities to maximize product value and delivery outcomes.

Product Backlog & Prioritization

Own, maintain, and continuously prioritize the product backlog alongside the HR Technology manager.

Define and communicate product requirements, acceptance criteria, and business outcomes for the HRIS team.

Refine, sequence, and prioritize work based on strategic value, business impact, stakeholder feedback, team capacity, and technical considerations.

Make informed tradeoff decisions to balance competing priorities while maximizing business value.

Ensure backlog transparency and alignment across stakeholders and delivery teams.

Agile Delivery & Release Management

Lead the semi-annual HR Technology releases ensuring completion of all critical pieces and following up with SMEs on outstanding issues and concerns.

Drive sprint planning, release planning, and product delivery activities in partnership with the HRIS team.

Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery of new features, enhancements, integrations, and process improvements.

Participate in sprint reviews, demonstrations, and retrospectives to ensure delivered solutions meet business needs and expectations.

Establish release priorities, timelines, and delivery expectations while maintaining focus on outcomes and value realization.

Monitor team progress, velocity, dependencies, and risks to support successful execution.

Stakeholder Partnership & Communication

Serve as a liaison between HR stakeholders, HR technology partners, and HRIS team.

Build strong, trusted relationships across HR stakeholders, operations, payroll, benefits, talent acquisition, talent management, and related business functions.

Facilitate decision-making and alignment among stakeholders with competing priorities.

Communicate product goals, roadmap updates, delivery status, risks, and outcomes to leadership and key stakeholders.

Champion change management and user adoption efforts associated with new capabilities and enhancements.

Product Innovation

Drive the prioritization and planning of enhancements and innovation released by our HR Technology vendors.

Partner with architecture, security, infrastructure, and development teams to evaluate solutions and guide prioritization decisions.

Ensure delivered solutions support long-term scalability, maintainability, compliance, and operational effectiveness.

Project Management

Serve the role of project manager for large cross functional HR projects involving HR Technology.

Ensure prioritization and completion of project management tasks throughout major projects.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Information Systems, Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

5-7+ years of experience in Product Ownership, Product Management, or Agile product leadership roles.

Experience leading technology products within a fast paced team.

Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.

Experience managing product roadmaps, product backlogs, sprint planning, and release planning.

Experience with Agile delivery tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, Rally, or similar platforms.

Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and drive alignment across multiple functional areas.

Exceptional communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting and optimizing Workday modules such as Core HCM, Recruiting, Talent, Compensation, Benefits, Payroll, Learning, or Integrations.

Experience leading technology products within an HRIS, Human Resources, or Workday environment.

Significant experience supporting Workday implementations and enhancements.

Experience working within large, complex enterprise organizations.

Familiarity with HR processes, employee lifecycle management, and HR operating models.

Insurance industry experience is a plus.

Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM), or similar Agile certifications preferred.

This is a Contract position based out of Omaha, NE.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $70.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
