The Heart of the Role

A warm, active family in Menlo Park is seeking an experienced, dependable, and detail-oriented Housekeeper to care for and maintain their home.

The family has three young children and is looking for someone who is comfortable working in a busy family environment and takes genuine pride in keeping a home clean, organized, and running smoothly.

This role is best suited to someone who brings excellent housekeeping skills along with good judgment, flexibility, strong communication, and a service-oriented mindset. The family values someone who notices what needs attention, is comfortable shifting priorities when needed, and understands that excellent household support often includes both routine responsibilities and the occasional unexpected task.

A willingness to pitch in, adapt, and help where needed is an important part of the role.

Schedule

The family is primarily seeking a full-time Housekeeper and is focused on finding the right long-term fit. They have flexibility around exact start and end times and can offer the following full-time schedules:

Preferred Full-Time Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 11:30 AM–7:30 PM

Alternate Full-Time Schedules:
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
or
Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM

The family is also open to considering a part-time schedule of approximately 4.5–6 hours per day.

For part-time candidates, there is flexibility in how those hours are structured. The family can consider a consistent 4.5–6 hour shift scheduled anytime between 8:00 AM and 7:30 PM, depending on the candidate’s availability and the needs of the household.

Examples might include:

• 8:00 AM–12:30 PM

• 8:00 AM–2:00 PM

• 9:00 AM–1:30 PM

• 1:30 PM–7:30 PM

• 3:00 PM–7:30 PM

• Or another consistent 4.5–6 hour schedule within the 8:00 AM–7:30 PM window

Guaranteed hours: Based on the agreed-upon full-time or part-time schedule.
Overtime: Regular overtime is not expected.

Responsibilities

The Housekeeper will be responsible for maintaining a consistently clean, organized, and well-cared-for home. Responsibilities will include:

• Thorough cleaning of the kitchen and bathrooms

• Vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping floors

• Dusting and wiping counters, tables, furniture, fixtures, and household surfaces

• Making beds and changing bed linens

• Family laundry, including washing, drying, folding, and putting items away

• General tidying and daily resetting of rooms

• Maintaining organization throughout the home

• Cleaning mirrors, glass, sliding doors, and windows as needed

• Removing fingerprints and everyday marks from glass, doors, and other surfaces

• Proper care and cleaning of marble, natural stone, and specialty finishes

• Using appropriate cleaning products and methods for different surfaces and materials

• Monitoring household cleaning supplies and communicating when items need replenishment

• Preparing and resetting indoor and outdoor spaces when the family entertains

• Wiping outdoor tables, counters, and entertaining areas before or after guests

• Assisting with other reasonable household tasks as needs arise

The family is looking for someone who is comfortable with the natural variety that comes with working in a private home.

For example, on a day when guests are coming for lunch or dinner, priorities may shift to preparing outdoor areas, wiping down tables and counters, cleaning fingerprints from a sliding glass door, or giving extra attention to a particular room.

A willingness to pitch in and help where needed is an important part of the role.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be:

• Experienced in professional residential housekeeping

• Highly detail-oriented and thorough

• Comfortable with both routine housekeeping and deep cleaning

• Knowledgeable about the proper care of marble, natural stone, and other specialty surfaces

• Organized and able to maintain household systems

• Proactive and observant, with a natural eye for what needs attention

• Flexible and comfortable with changing priorities

• Dependable, punctual, and consistent

• Calm and professional in a busy household

• A strong and respectful communicator

• Comfortable working around young children

• Discreet and respectful of the family’s privacy

• Someone with excellent common sense and sound judgment

• Willing to help with a variety of reasonable household needs

• Someone who takes pride in being of service and in leaving a home noticeably better cared for at the end of the day

Experience working in a household with children is a plus but is not required. This is not a childcare position, though the Housekeeper should be comfortable working around children and interacting with them appropriately when their paths cross during the day.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation: $55–$60+/hour, dependent on experience and qualifications.

Benefits include:

• Guaranteed weekly hours based on the agreed-upon schedule

A 401(k) is not currently offered.

Travel

Travel is not expected as a regular part of the position. There may occasionally be an opportunity to travel with the family in the future if the Housekeeper is interested and available.

Trial Period

The family would like to begin with a 2 week paid trial
