House Manager & Family Assistant (with Childcare and Meal Prep)

Location: Arnold, MD 21012

Employment Type: Part-Time | 24–30 hours per week (24 hours guaranteed)

Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Weekend availability for additional hours is a plus for occasional hosting support, sports coverage, or date nights

Compensation: $30–$35/hour based on experience

Requirements

• Reliable transportation required (mileage reimbursed for work-related driving)
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
• Maintain a smoke-free environment
• CPR and First Aid certification required or willingness to obtain
• Comfort around water (waterfront property with a pool)
• Ability to navigate multiple flights of stairs

About Our Family

We are an active family with three kids ages 4, 9, and 10. Both parents work full-time, and with practices, games, and everyone constantly heading in different directions, our days and evenings can move pretty quickly. We love living on the water and are lucky to have grandparents living in a detached in-law suite on the property. Our home is dynamic and full, which means there is always plenty of details to keep up with and things that need attention.

We're a close-knit household that values hard work, directness, and a good sense of humor. We need someone who can roll with the energy and maintain professionalism without feeling stiff or out of place. Nearly every weekend you'll find us with friends and their kids filling the house, and we want our home manager to feel comfortable and confident in our household environment.

We have an established team of cleaners and landscapers, and we're looking for someone who can slot seamlessly into that ecosystem. We're not looking for someone to reinvent the wheel — we need someone to help us keep it turning smoothly so we can spend less time managing logistics and more time being present with our kids.

Key Responsibilities

Meal Support

• Prepare 3–4 dinners per week (accommodating various dietary preferences within the household), ranging from fresh cooked to batch-style depending on the week's schedule
• Collaborate with the family on meal planning initially, taking on more ownership as preferences are established
• Shop in-store for groceries
• Handle kitchen clean-up and general kitchen maintenance

Household Organization & Maintenance

• Maintain existing household organization systems
• Perform daily resets of the home: light tidying, wipe surfaces, load and unload dishwasher, vacuum high-traffic areas, take out trash, etc
• Prepare the home for biweekly cleaners
• Coordinate seasonal clothing swaps for kids
• Assist with event, holiday, and guest prep for hosting (family hosts often; opportunities to assist on weekends for extra hours may be made available)
• Proactively handle small maintenance tasks: battery replacements, light bulbs, smoke detectors, etc.
• Interior cleaning of family vehicles

Laundry & Linens

• Wash, fold, and organize laundry for the household and keep the laundry area tidy
• Manage rotation of linens
• Coordinate dry cleaning on occasion

Family Support

• Provide child pickups and drop-offs
• Supervision and backup childcare support
• Opportunities to provide date night support for additional hours will be presented
• Support children's daily chores and other responsibilities

Vendor & Property Oversight

• Manage existing vendor relationships (e.g. landscapers)
• Collaborate with cleaning crew: flag items as needed and support their work flow
• Oversee boat-related contractor visits: be on-site for cleaning and repair coordination and ensure work is completed to agreed upon standards
• Skim and vacuum pool as needed (spot cleaning only, no regular pool maintenance)
• Assist with seasonal property maintenance (e.g., wiping down outdoor furniture, winterizing outdoor kitchen) as needed

Inventory & Errands

• Manage shared household supply and grocery list
• Restock pantry, fridge, and household supplies throughout the home
• Oversee and manage subscriptions and recurring orders
• Handle returns, gift shopping, dry cleaning, and other miscellaneous errands as requested
• Manage and organize incoming mail and packages, including box breakdown

Administrative & Personal Assistant Support

• Maintain awareness of and plan proactively around (meals, etc) the family calendar
• Coordinate events and appointments for the family as needed
• Track receipts and spending for work-related expenses
• Manage administrative tasks for family vehicles (e.g. registration, insurance, maintenance scheduling) on an as-needed basis
• Potential to assist with travel planning and logistics on occasion

Deep Cleaning & Special Projects

• Perform occasional deep cleaning tasks (e.g. fridge, oven, baseboards)
• Support kids in maintaining and tidying the "drop zones" in the home (mudroom, garage, entryway, etc.)
• Clean humidifiers and air purifiers in winter months
• Manage organizational projects (e.g. closets) as requested and make suggestions for organizational systems throughout the home
