About the Role

The Caregiver plays a vital role in providing compassionate and personalized care to clients in their homes, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being. This position involves assisting clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication reminders, and light housekeeping, to promote their independence and quality of life. The Caregiver serves as a trusted companion and support system, fostering a positive and respectful environment while closely monitoring clients' health and reporting any changes to healthcare professionals. This role requires a strong commitment to client dignity and confidentiality, as well as the ability to respond promptly and effectively in emergency situations. Ultimately, the Caregiver contributes significantly to the overall care plan by delivering attentive, reliable, and empathetic support tailored to each client’s unique needs.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist clients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting to maintain personal hygiene and comfort.
• Prepare and serve nutritious meals according to dietary guidelines and assist with feeding when necessary.
• Provide medication reminders and monitor clients for any adverse reactions or changes in condition, reporting concerns to supervisors or healthcare providers.
• Perform light housekeeping duties including cleaning, laundry, and organizing to ensure a safe and clean living environment.
• Answer phones and communicate effectively with clients, family members, and provide updates to the office.
• Respond promptly to emergencies by administering basic first aid or CPR as needed and contacting emergency services.
• Offer companionship and emotional support to reduce feelings of isolation and promote mental well-being.

Minimum Qualifications

• Age 18 or older 
• Certification in CPR and First Aid.
• Proven experience or training in providing personal care or home health assistance.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, including answering phones professionally.
• Ability to pass a background check and a competency skills check.
• Reliable transportation to travel to client homes within the Aurora Homecare service area.
• Ability to follow written care instructions and document services.
• Compassion, patience, and professionalism with vulnerable populations.
• Ability to work independently in home settings.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working as a Caregiver, Home Aide, or in a similar role.
• Familiarity with basic medical terminology and client care documentation.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
• Preferred bilingual abilities to better serve diverse client populations.

Answering phones professionally is critical for maintaining clear communication with clients, family members, and healthcare providers, facilitating smooth coordination of care. Daily work involves applying these skills to monitor client health, provide timely assistance, and document observations accurately. Preferred skills such as additional caregiving certifications and bilingual communication enhance the ability to meet diverse client needs and improve overall service quality. Together, these skills enable the Caregiver to deliver compassionate, competent, and responsive care in a home setting.
