The Athletic Coach is responsible for developing student-athletes both on and off the field by fostering skills, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. The coach provides leadership and instruction, organizes practices and competitions, and ensures compliance with school policies, league regulations, and safety standards. This role serves as a mentor and positive role model, contributing to the overall mission of the school by promoting physical fitness, personal growth, and character development.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and lead practices, conditioning sessions, and competitions for assigned sport.
Teach fundamental skills, strategies, and rules of the game to student-athletes of varying abilities.
Foster an environment of respect, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes at all times.
Maintain equipment and facilities in safe, working condition; report any issues promptly.
Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, administration, and athletic staff.
Uphold school policies, league rules, and state regulations related to athletics and student conduct.
Support the academic success of student-athletes by encouraging responsible time management and balance.
Monitor and enforce attendance, eligibility, and behavioral expectations.
Attend required meetings, training sessions, and professional development as assigned.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree in education, physical education, or related field preferred.
Prior coaching and/or playing experience in the assigned sport strongly preferred.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before the season begins).
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of the rules, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes while promoting positive character values.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with parents, faculty, and administration.
Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the school.
