Head Aquatics Coach

Position Summary:

Provide competitive swimming instruction in a safe environment, ensuring adherence to pool rules and regulations, and using creative techniques to engage children and families.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Include the following, and may also include other duties as assigned:

1. Utilize comprehensive knowledge of the rules and fundamentals of the sport of competitive swimming to provide instruction and coaching for various age groups in accordance with National YMCA guidelines and USA Swimming.

1. Consistently provide a timely schedule for assistant coaches for maximum utilization of the program.

1. Oversee the quality of swim team instruction and offer suggestions for improvement to the Aquatic Director.

1. Ensure the health and safety of all individuals in the pool, i.e. caution regarding unsafe practices and conditions and perform rescue/first aid when necessary. Report accidents and injuries and complete incident reports. 

1. Observes and enforces all rules and regulations of the YMCA and USA Swimming (when applicable), including monitoring swimmers in the locker room, pool area, other YMCA training rooms, as well as off-site facilities. Handle disciplinary actions in a timely equitable and effective manner, according to YMCA policy. Report actions to the Aquatic Director or Branch Leadership

1. Provide overall leadership and management for each swim meet. This will include encouraging swimmer and family participation, completing all required reports and records according to establish timelines and procedures, and maintaining necessary reports and statistical data as required for program management, safety and funding. 

1. Work with the Aquatic Director to develop and manage the swim team's budget. This may include mobilizing support for assigned programs and projects through recruitment of volunteers, as well as soliciting donations of equipment and supplies.

1. Work with parents to coordinate swim meet concessions, meet organization and Banquet planning and other activities as needed.

1. Assist in the recruiting, supervision, training and evaluation of staff. Oversee age group/novice coaches in their development of goal settings and achievement evaluation for age group and novice swimmers. 

1. Work with the Aquatic Director and Branch Leadership to develop marketing and publicity strategies for the swim team program. 

1. Responsible for attendance at staff meetings and/or trainings and other scheduled functions, including swim meets, SENECY League meetings, parent meetings, end of year banquet and others as required.

1. Demonstrate and teach the Character development values of caring, respect, responsibility and honesty. 

1. Work in harmony and cooperation with the staff, volunteers and members of the YMCA to develop team spirit and family atmosphere. 

1. Maintain good public relations with members, program participants, and their families; and positively promote within the community; direct all major problems to Aquatic Director or designate, using the appropriate supervisory channels. 

1. Is a member service ambassador, remaining abreast of current programs and facility schedules; being prepared to provide personalized direction to other services.

Education and/or Experience:

High School (GED) required 

A minimum of 5 years of competitive coaching experience

YMCA swim coaching experience preferred
