Hamilton Insurance Summer Internship (Richmond, VA)

We’re looking for Summer Interns (Richmond, VA).

This Richmond-based internship provides an exciting opportunity to spend 8 weeks gaining valuable insight, knowledge & skills in the world of Excess & Surplus insurance. You will have the opportunity to work across Hamilton Select’s various teams and departments including Underwriting, Claims & Operations.

This internship would ideally suit junior year university students, and/or those who might be looking for entry level opportunities in the coming year and would benefit from an introduction to the insurance industry.

Hamilton Select is our US excess and surplus lines insurer based in Richmond, Virginia underwriting hard-to-place accounts in the small and middle-market space through an appointed wholesale broker network.

What your internship will include

• A combination of on-the-job learning and formal development through which you will gain work experience and transferable skills to aid you in future career opportunities
• Rotations within some of Hamilton Select’s key departments
• Insight into the world of E&S insurance
• Introductions to our business operations, working with many professionals across multiple disciplines, including Underwriting, Claims, Operations, Actuarial, and Finance
• Running and owning a project with our support, with the opportunity to present the outcomes to Hamilton executives at the end of the program

What you require for the role

• A keen and demonstrable interest in the Insurance industry
• A willingness to learn and to push the limits of your knowledge and skills in a fast-paced, innovative and exciting environment
• Good numerical abilities
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Team player but able to work on your own initiative
• Ability to work from our Richmond office for at least four days per week (Mon-Thurs)
