Overview
The Salvation Army’s Springfield Corps., is hiring a Gun Violence Prevention Educator and offers the following benefit package to part-time employees:

Location: 170 Pearl St., Springfield, MA
Hours/week: 20 hours per week
Tuesday: 11:00am – 6:00pm
Wednesday: 11:00am – 6:00pm
Thursday: 12:00pm – 6:00pm
Exemption: Non-exempt
Pay Range: $16.00 - $25.00 per hour
*starting pay varies depending on experience and qualifications*
The Gun Violence Prevention Educator is responsible for designing, implementing, and teaching educational programs aimed at reducing gun violence for at-risk youth. The educator will work with various stakeholders, including schools, community organizations, law enforcement, and local government, to promote gun safety, awareness, and conflict resolution strategies for at-risk youth. The role involves delivering training, conducting workshops, and supporting efforts to prevent gun violence through proactive education and community engagement.

Duties & Responsibilities:
QUALIFICATIONS
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, public health, criminal justice, or a related field (Master's degree preferred) or 10 years’ experience
- Certification in violence prevention or conflict resolution.
Work Experience:
- Proven experience in community outreach, violence prevention, or education, with a focus on gun violence or related areas.
- Experience in program development, evaluation, and reporting.
- Experience working with youth, families, or marginalized communities.
Other Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of gun violence issues, prevention strategies, and relevant laws and policies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Passionate about community education, social justice, and reducing violence
- Bilingual or multilingual proficiency.
- Knowledge of local gun violence data, trends, and community resources.
- This position may require occasional evening or weekend hours for events or workshops.
- Travel within the community or region for outreach activities may be necessary.
- Flexibility in work schedule based on program needs.
