GSSI Student Assistant Specialist

The Gender and Sexualities Studies Institute (GSSI) is a hub for interdisciplinary research and practices that relate to gender studies across The New School. Public and TNS community events are a key element of GSSI’s annual programming, as well as promoting the work of our students and faculty. GSSI currently seeks a Web Designer, whose central responsibility will be to assist with maintaining the GSSI WordPress website, and three Student Assistant Specialists whose central responsibility will be to assist with all aspects of event planning, including promotion and publicity, being present at events, supporting speakers’ needs, and other duties in support of the GSSI Director as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Promote GSSI events: producing information for Splash pages, flyers, and other materials; prepare emails for listserve, create announcements for internal TNS platforms.

• Attend bi-weekly meetings of the GSSI Team led by the GSSI Director

• Assist with AV needs, producing event photography

• Manage catering; general set up and break down, and other related tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Excellent organizational skills

• Collaborative team member

• Facility with online platforms including Google docs and social media platforms

• Strong communication skills

• Strong cultural competencies and ability to work with diverse students, faculty, staff, and community members.

WORK MODE
● Hybrid: team meetings and planning work can be done remotely. In-person presence at as many GSSI events as possible is required. Some additional on campus presence for event planning purposes.

Hourly Rate: $21/hour
