Location: Bryson City, North Carolina 

Compensation: $14-$17/hr. (DOE), Plus tips; Position is eligible for Instrument maintenance and repair reimbursement

Job Summary: The Musician/Onboard Entertainer travels from car to car providing musical entertainment and customer service for the passengers during the rail excursion as well as on properties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for entertaining passengers on board general excursions, specialty trains, and off-board (on grounds) when requested.
Time management is necessary onboard the train to ensure that all guests have an equal amount of interaction and music.
Entertain guests by curating songs based on specialty celebrations, ie. Birthdays, Honeymoon, Anniversary, etc. 
Have broad knowledge of songs that best represent GSMR and its surrounding region, in addition to being prepared for songs requested on a regular basis. Example: “Wagon Wheel”
Always maintain a professional appearance in GSMR-approved attire. 
Boarding and de-boarding train cars at an assigned boarding station.
Comply with GSMR policy, procedures, and safety program, including Safety Rules, Operating Rules, and participation in ongoing safety training/regular daily safety meetings with onboard staff. 
Complete required paperwork and recordkeeping in a timely manner when requested. 
Other duties and responsibilities as requested. 

Work Environment:

Work on and off the train in varied terrain in all weather during both daylight and dark hours. 
Must be able to work on a moving train and the grounds.
Must be able to work in temperatures ranging from 0-100 degrees.
Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
Enclosed and Open-Air Moving Train Cars.  
Works directly with the public. 

QualificationsEducation, Skill and Work Experience Requirements:

Ability to play an acoustic instrument, preferably a fiddle, guitar, or banjo.
Ability and willingness to sing and play instrument in front on an audience in a non-concert setting without amplification. 
Two years of entertainment experience, preferred. 
Must be familiar with Appalachia history, and music of the Appalachia/Bluegrass etc. 
Must be able to interact effectively with coworkers and customers.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule with morning, night, weekend and holiday hours.
