Reporting Relationships: Group Teacher report to the Program Director.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Program Director, Group Teachers are expected to perform the following principal duties and responsibilities.

Works within the guidelines of AAPCI and carries out its functions, policies and procedures; observing the schedules in the center and adhering to its established personnel policies and practices.
Plan and implement engaging activities for a group of children.
Develop and maintain calendar of events and classes with Program Director.
Provide homework assistance and academic support to children.
Coordinate the planning and execution of site events.
Supervise the planning and execution of a program to provide developmental and health needs of the group, as well as the individual child.
Responsible for keeping equipment and material accessible and in good condition in order to ensure maximum constructive use by children.
Responsible for removing and/or reporting any damaged or hazardous equipment to the Clinical Supervisor or to maintenance so that appropriate action may be taken.
Plans the use of community resources to enrich the educational content of the children's program.
Maintain a strengths-based perspective to engage all members of the family in order to help improve family functioning.
Develops a program of sound educational goals, appropriate to the age and developmental level of the children.
Attends all internal trainings, development conferences and other mandated trainings scheduled by funding agency including in the field of early childhood education.
Prepares, writes, and maintains all required progress notes, reports, and group notes.
Advocate and connect tenants to medical, mental health, and other supportive counseling services.
Effectively guide tenants through the process of application, qualification, re-determination for SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, Medicare, HRA, HPD, SNAP, and other services as needed.
Manages an assigned caseload of tenants ensuring comprehensive case management services are provided to both families and single adults as assigned.
Provide outreach in order to engage tenants who do not follow through with appointments and case management as assigned.
Maintain a strengths-based perspective to engage all members of the family in order to help improve family functioning.
Assist youth in completing college applications, FAFSA applications and other documents for college.
Responsible for promoting sound parent relationships.
Liaison with school, ACS, DOE and other community resources and attend IEP and other meetings as required.
Conduct unit inspections in the tenant’s unit to ensure compliance with lease and program rules.
Develops and implements an appropriate plan by which information concerning the child(ren) and the program can be shared with the parent.
Attends and participates in group parent meetings.
Respects the confidential nature of all information about parents and children.
Maintains good work relationship and objectivity with other staff members of the Social Services Department.
Performs other related duties as may be requested by immediate supervisor and in his/her absence the Program Director.

 
QualificationsMinimal Qualifications:

Degree Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in a related field (education, social work, mental health counseling, psychology, sociology etc.) with at least 2-3 years’ experience in a residential setting. Required to possess a Teachers or an Assistant Teachers Certification. Experience working with the Board of Education or Department of Education is desired.

Other Qualifications:

Experience with one (1) or more populations including: mental health, substance use, inpatient/outpatient treatment, homelessness and supportive housing populations is desired but not required.
Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a focus on providing excellent tenant services.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with a diverse community of residents, program staff and external partners.
Ability to exercise good judgement and apply problem solving skills.
Experience working collaboratively in a team oriented and outcomes focused environment.
Ability to monitor and manage variety of tasks assigned.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range and benefits information for this position are being included in accordance with requirements of New York State and City pay transparency laws.  Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individuals’ competencies, education/professional certifications, qualifications/experience and performance in the role. 

Compensation

The base salary compensation being offered for this role is $60,000 per year.
