Grounds and Snow Laborer

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work – Part time, 18 hours per week, including weekends and holiday work, depending on needs related to the contract. 

Qualifications – Experience in grounds maintenance and snow removal experience required.  Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance. Must be capable of moving up and down stairs without difficulty. Must be capable of working on feet for extended periods of time. Must provide your own transportation to work. Must be able to read and identify MSD sheets and various chemical labels and markings.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance – Authorized to work in the United States.

Summary/Objective - Perform grounds maintenance and snow removal work in areas as assigned.           

Essential Functions – Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. Grounds maintenance to include mowing, weed eating, edging, and fertilizing.
2. Conduct weeding and mulching of landscape beds.
3. Make sure hedges, shrubs, and small trees are trimmed.
4. Plant trees, flowers, and shrubs.
5. Ensure lawns, landscapes, and gardens are watered.
6. Monitor and maintain plant health.
7. Ability to operate small lawn tractor.
8. Snow removal to include clearing of snow and ice from federal contract sites.
9. Ability to use snow shovel, snow blower, salt spreader.
10. Monitor use of equipment and report any malfunctions or problems to supervisor.
11. Act as liaison between the snow removal sub-contractor and the Federal Customer.
12. Practice “Safety First”.

Supervisory Responsibility – This position does not provide supervision.

Travel – There is limited travel within St. Lawrence County.

Work Environment - This position operates in all outside areas of the facility at the Massena Land Port of Entry (LPOE) and Ogdensburg Customs House.
