Grain Origination Intern

To gain a sound understanding of the grain industry, grain origination, merchandising, marketing strategies and the value of customer relationships as it relates to the cooperative industry.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Gain working knowledge of procuring corn and soybeans from producer customers.
Assist with calls on producers, explaining programs and markets to promote purchases of grain.
Learn pricing and credit terms and prepare sales and purchase contracts for orders obtained.
Gain understanding of monitoring area basis levels.
Assist with monitoring competitiveness for cash grain bids.
Gain understanding of and assist in monitoring activity on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT).
Assists in the development of and communication of grain policies and programs.
Maintain a high level of customer service and a friendly atmosphere.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license and commercial insurability at all times.
Other duties as assigned by management.

Education/Experience:

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or Bachelor's Degree in an agricultural related field or working towards a Bachelor's Degree.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of spreadsheet, accounting and grain software.

Certificates and Licenses:

Must maintain a valid driver’s license and commercial insurability at all times.
