Residential Services

Family Tree’s GOALS is a family residential shelter serving households that are currently homeless or at risk of homelessness. The program provides a safe and supportive environment, case management, and basic needs through a multigenerational and trauma-informed approach. GOALS operates 24/7.

Job Summary

The GOALS Program Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of GOALS. The Director provides direct leadership and supervision to residential staff, ensures effective staffing and service delivery, supports a safe and welcoming environment, and responds to immediate client and staff needs. The Director works closely with the Vice President of Homelessness Programs and Residential Data and Grants Manager to ensure that GOALS operates consistently with Family Tree policies, contractual requirements, program standards, and the organization’s mission and values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Operations

Manage daily GOALS program operations and ensure effective service delivery.
Support consistency across GOALS residential locations and program activities.
Ensure program practices align with established policies, procedures, safety standards, and contractual expectations.
Monitor the residential environment and address operational concerns.
Identify program barriers and bring recommendations to the Vice President of Homelessness Programs.
Support coordination and integration with other Family Tree services.

Staffing and Scheduling

Develop and maintain schedules for GOALS staff and relief coverage.
Monitor staffing levels and respond to coverage needs.
Respond to staff call-outs and unexpected staffing needs.
Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and training of new staff.
Ensure staff have the information and resources needed to perform their roles effectively.

Staff Supervision and Leadership

Provide direct supervision, coaching, and support to assigned staff.
Conduct regular supervision and performance check-ins.
Address staff performance and workplace concerns.
Support staff accountability, professional development, and continuous improvement.
Foster a team culture grounded in collaboration, communication, respect, and accountability.
Provide leadership and support during complex or high-acuity situations.

Client Support and Problem Solving

Respond to immediate client concerns and assist staff with complex client situations.
Promote a safe, respectful, and trauma-informed residential environment.
Ensure program expectations are communicated clearly and applied consistently.
Support staff in crisis response, conflict resolution, and problem solving.
Promote client dignity, choice, and equitable treatment.

Documentation and Workflow

Ensure staff understand and follow required documentation processes.
Monitor completion of operational documentation and required workflows.
Support file reviews, case reviews, and quality assurance processes.
Identify documentation concerns and coordinate with the Residential Programs Administrator for resolution.
Help ensure program procedures are implemented consistently across GOALS locations.

Intern and Volunteer Management

Coordinate the integration of interns and volunteers into GOALS operations.
Ensure interns and volunteers receive appropriate orientation, supervision, and guidance.
Ensure adherence to confidentiality, boundaries, safety, and program expectations.
Coordinate with Family Tree’s Gifts and Community Support Team regarding volunteer and internship activities.

On-Call Responsibilities

Participate in the Residential Services on-call rotation.
Respond to after-hours staffing, client, operational, and safety concerns.
Provide appropriate leadership and decision-making during emergencies.
Communicate significant events and follow-up needs to the Vice President of Homelessness Programs.

Leadership and Collaboration

Communicate routinely with the Vice President of Homelessness Programs regarding program performance, staffing, client concerns, and operational issues.
Partner with the Residential Programs Administrator regarding data, reporting, documentation, and compliance.
Collaborate with staff across locations to promote consistency and shared practices.
Maintain collaborative relationships with clients, staff, community partners, interns, and volunteers.
Support Family Tree’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and client dignity.

Qualifications: Qualifications and Competencies

Experience working with families experiencing homelessness or other significant barriers.
Experience supervising staff in a residential, shelter, human services, or related environment.
Knowledge of trauma-informed and strengths-based practices.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to respond calmly and effectively to crises.
Strong relationship-building and conflict-resolution skills.
Commitment to client dignity, equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practice.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and participate in an on-call rotation.

Preferred Experience

Experience in homelessness services, emergency shelter, transitional housing, or residential services.
Experience working with HMIS, Salesforce or related databases.
Familiarity with 2Gen models, domestic violence-informed services, or related approaches.
Bilingual English/Spanish skills.
