Duties:
The student Global Kitchen Peer Mentor will join a team that will provide academic and culinary support to members of the Grinnell College community who use the Global Kitchen in the HSSC. The GKPMs will perform two central functions: they will work with faculty and staff who use the Global Kitchen in their teaching, and they will act as culinary coordinators of this space, facilitating intercultural exchange through the culinary arts, and ensuring that the Global Kitchen is maintained according to college policy and Stat of Iowa regulations. Qualified candidates for the position should be willing to work together with other GKPMs as a flexible and cohesive team. Job responsibilities will include : collaborating with faculty and staff to integrate the culinary arts in their teaching: assisting with technology; demonstrating basic kitchen skills and Global Kitchen policy; educating kitchen users about health and safety requirements; provide assistance to faculty and staff with initial kitchen set-up; monitoring kitchen clean-up and food storage; coordinating kitchen use for student groups; ensuring that the kitchen has been properly cleaned and closed down after each use. The GKPMs will also be given the chance to lead their own intercultural food events.
Qualifications
Experience in food service or working in a kitchen is preferred but a love of cooking and sharing food with others is expected. A Serve-Safe Food safety certificate will be required. This can be attained after being hired if you don't already have one.
