Gallery Assistant (1 CWS/1 FWS), SC1GALLYSPARTS (FA26)
Student Worker Eligibility:
Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours for Fall/Spring semester or 1 credit hour for Summer semester.
Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above. If a first semester student, GPA requirement is waived.
If a Student qualifies for Federal Work Study, the Student will be hired as a Federal Work Study employee to utilize these funds.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Gallery Assistant supports exhibitions, visitor services, and daily operations at the Cleve Carney Museum of Art and related campus galleries. Students gain practical experience working in a professional museum alongside museum staff, artists, and fellow student employees.
Responsibilities include:
Welcome visitors and provide information about exhibitions, programs, and museum guidelines.
Monitor galleries and support the protection of artwork.
Assist with exhibition installation and removal, including painting, preparing gallery spaces, and organizing materials.
Assist with artwork handling and packing under staff supervision.
Help set up and staff exhibition receptions, educational programs, and other museum events.
Maintain clean and organized galleries, workspaces, and storage areas.
Assist with visitor counts, basic administrative tasks, and other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Meets College of DuPage eligibility requirements for this student work-study position.
Reliable attendance and clear communication about scheduling and assigned responsibilities.
Ability to interact courteously and professionally with visitors, students, artists, and staff.
Ability to follow instructions, ask questions when clarification is needed, and work independently or with a team.
Willingness to learn museum procedures and participate in gallery preparation and exhibition activities.
Working Conditions:
Work takes place in the Cleve Carney Museum of Art, campus galleries, and related preparation and storage areas. Responsibilities include public interaction, gallery monitoring, and physical tasks associated with exhibition preparation and installation. Tasks may involve sitting or standing for extended periods, bending, reaching, moving supplies, painting, and using basic tools under staff supervision. Occasional evening and weekend shifts may be required.
