Fully Licensed Mental Health Therapist – 1099 Private-Practice

Ellie Mental Health–Clarkston is an independently owned private practice offering in-person and telehealth services throughout Michigan. We are seeking fully licensed clinicians who already operate a private practice—or want to begin building one—without having to manage every administrative detail alone.

This 1099 opportunity provides access to a welcoming, furnished therapy office and practice-support services, including insurance credentialing and billing. Clinicians maintain the independence of private practice while working alongside a collaborative professional community grounded in authenticity, compassion, creativity, humor, acceptance, and determination.

Independent Practice Model

This is a 1099 independent-contractor opportunity, not a W-2 employee position. Contractors are not salaried and do not receive employee benefits, paid leave, employer-paid payroll taxes, or other W-2 protections.

Compensation is based on the terms of the independent-contractor agreement and collected insurance and client payments for completed services. The reimbursement structure, service fees, office availability, and included administrative support will be reviewed before contracting.

Clinicians retain professional independence and control over their schedules, caseload size, and clinical approach, subject to applicable laws, ethical standards, payer requirements, credentialing agreements, and the written contractor agreement.

Contractor Responsibilities

• Operate as an independent mental health professional and maintain appropriate business records
• Conduct assessments, establish diagnoses within scope, create treatment plans, and provide evidence-based psychotherapy
• Complete progress notes, treatment plans, risk documentation, and payer-required records accurately and on time
• Maintain all required licenses, credentials, professional liability coverage, and continuing education
• Manage scheduling, client communication, cancellations, and continuity of care
• Comply with HIPAA, ethical standards, payer requirements, and applicable Michigan and federal laws
• Communicate promptly regarding billing, credentialing, documentation, or client-account concerns
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and practice within competence
• Participate in quality or compliance activities required by law, payer agreements, or the contractor agreement
• Pay all applicable self-employment taxes and manage personal business expenses and insurance obligations

Required Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted Michigan clinical license in good standing as an LMSW, LPC, LP, or LMFT
• Master’s degree or higher in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, or a related behavioral-health discipline
• Experience with assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, psychotherapy, risk assessment, and clinical documentation
• Ability to satisfy insurance credentialing and payer-enrollment requirements
• Ability to complete documentation within required clinical and payer timelines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Dependability, organization, professional judgment, ethical boundaries, and follow-through
• Ability to work competently with diverse clients while remaining within scope of practice
• Proficiency with electronic health records and routine office technology; Valant experience is preferred

Preferred Qualifications

• Existing private-practice experience and caseload or a clear plan to establish an independent practice caseload
• Current credentialing with commercial insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, or EAP panels
• Established professional or community referral relationships
• Clinical specialties responsive to community needs
• Experience with community outreach, presentations, or professional marketing
