Job Title: Part-Time Food Sovereignty Coordinator
Overview:
We are seeking a passionate, organized, and community-minded Food Sovereignty Coordinator to help us launch and grow our school food sovereignty initiative. This part-time position is responsible for coordinating greenhouse and hoop house construction, developing partnerships with Native food producers, supporting curriculum integration, and leading efforts to bring more Indigenous foods into our school cafeteria and community events.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the construction and launch of a greenhouse and an outdoor kitchen on campus.
- Coordinate the rollout of new curriculum units focused on food sovereignty for grades K-6
- Establish and maintain procurement agreements with Native food producers.
- Organize and host community feasts and events to celebrate Indigenous foods.
- Work with school staff to integrate greenhouse harvests into school meals.
- Develop and implement a procurement policy that prioritizes Indigenous food sourcing for the school cafeteria.
- Expand partnerships to include additional Native food producers and tribal institutions.
- Track and evaluate the impacts of the initiative, gathering data and feedback from students, staff, and community members.
- Share learnings, best practices, and outcomes with other schools and tribal organizations.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or tribal organizations preferred
- Knowledge of food sovereignty, Indigenous food systems, or school gardens a plus
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Comfortable with event planning, partnership development, and educational outreach
Compensation:
$50,000 over 2 years (part-time, contract)
