Food Service Assistant

Regional West Medical Center is seeking a dependable and team-oriented Food Service Assistant to support the daily operations of our Dietary Department. This role is essential in providing safe, timely, and nutritious meals to patients, staff, and visitors in a healthcare environment. Food Service Assistants work across multiple areas including food preparation, tray line, cafeteria service, dish room, and room service operations while maintaining high standards of food safety, sanitation, and customer service.

A Day in the Life of a Food Service Assistant

As a Food Service Assistant, you’ll help prepare and serve meals while supporting patients, staff, and visitors. Your day may include working on the tray line, delivering and picking up patient meal trays, and assisting in the cafeteria.

You’ll help keep meals accurate by following diet orders and special requests and may assist with tray delivery for patients in isolation, following proper training. You’ll also help maintain a clean and safe work environment by washing dishes, sanitizing equipment, and properly handling and storing food.

Throughout your shift, you’ll provide friendly customer service and step in where needed to support department operations.

Qualifications

Education

• Must be able to read, understand, and follow verbal and written instructions

Experience

• Previous food service experience preferred but not required

Certification

• ServSafe certification preferred (or ability to obtain)

      Work Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including entire shifts
• Ability to lift and move heavy items from floor to waist level
• Ability to work safely around kitchen equipment, cleaning chemicals, and hot surfaces
• Strong attention to cleanliness, safety, and detail
• Positive attitude and teamwork skills
• Ability to provide excellent customer service
• Flexibility to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
