JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:        Janitor-Floor Tech

The following are skills needed to perform the essential functions of janitor-floor tech Manager.  The ability to:

Keep buildings in clean and orderly condition.
Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.
Perform routine maintenance activities and notifying management of need for repairs.
Demonstrate the ability to work with others and the elderly. 
Be knowledgeable of the principal equipment, materials, machines, tools used in housekeeping. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of the Floor Tech include cleaning and sanitizing according to established policy and procedures, as well as maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, all in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the administrator, dietitian and/ or food service supervisor or Food and Director of Central Services. The person holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

The following job functions have been determined to be essential to the position of a Floor Tech, Because of fluctuations in workload demands, as well as tasks often overlapping, frequency ranges and percentages vary by assignment, day of week, day, evening or night shift, etc.  However, low frequency and percentage or duration of time spent on a particular task may not indicate lack of importance.  (Property Name) reserves the right to modify this list of essential and other functions as deemed necessary.

Clean and restore building interiors damaged by fire, smoke, or water, using commercial cleaning equipment.
Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, shampooing or vacuuming them.
Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
Gather and empty trash.
Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning.

Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.
Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.

Apply cleaning solvents.
Move or fit heavy objects.
Operate cleaning equipment.
Clean rooms or work areas.
Remove stains from fabric or carpet.
Use hand or power tools.
Clean or wax floors.
Clean equipment or machinery.
Make minor repairs to mechanical equipment.
Requisition stock, materials, supplies or equipment.
Attend periodic in-services on chemical safety.
Reports any unusual resident’s conditions or illness to Resident Care Supervisor immediately.
Work cooperatively with facility staff.
Observe infection control procedures and properly correct if needed.
Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
Report to work on time as scheduled and consistently.
Maintain a professional attitude and consistently work cooperatively with residents, families, supervisors, co-workers and ancillary service providers.
Understand and follow all company policies including the Employee Handbook.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION REQUIRED

For the safety, health and welfare of the residents, employees and others, the Floor Tech will have a high school diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

(Property Name) requires the Janitor – Floor Tech to have a minimum of six months experience working in a hospital, skilled nursing care facility or other related medical facility.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Except where appropriate and conducive to accomplishing the goals and objectives of a particular task, the Floor Tech will work in a well-lighted area that is ventilated and as physically innocuous as possible under the conditions that exist at a particular time. Because the essential functions of the job of Floor Tech require exposure to involvement in a health care facility, including but not limited to exposure to AIDS, HIV, and Hepatitis B viruses will fluctuate. To be qualified for the position of Floor Tech, employees will have the ability to work in the environment conducive to caring for residents without posing a direct threat to self or others.

ATTIRE

The Janitor – Floor Tech manager will meet the dress code for neatness, cleanliness, grooming and dress as specified in the employee handbook.

WORK SCHEDULE

The Janitor – Floor Tech manager will report to work ready for routine duties and emergencies and may include working varied and/or split shifts and non-standard, day-shift hours.

SUPERVISOR

The Janitor – Floor Tech reports to Executive director

This position is classified as hourly, non-exempt, and does not qualify for the exemption from minimum wage and overtime pay provided by Section 13(a)(1) of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
