Join our General Services Bureau  

Gain valuable hands-on experience by assisting our General Services Bureau perform the important work behind the scenes that keeps our entire organization operating smoothly as we manage the water supply and protect our water quality. You will be provided with an opportunity to gain experience in areas such as repairs to District vehicles and equipment. Other tasks may include ordering and tracking of parts/supplies needed for different projects, completing paperwork/tracking of repairs, and cleaning parts, tools, and shop equipment. In joining our team, you'll play an important role in enhancing the results to ensure a brighter future for the environment of Florida. 

This internship opportunity is not eligible for remote work, all work will be conducted at the Tampa, FL office. 

For helping to maintain our valuable water resources as a student, we offer:

Compensation: $15 hourly

Essential Functions

• Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly workspace within the Tampa Fleet shop.
• Clean District pool vehicles, including interior and exterior upkeep.
• Support repairs and basic maintenance on District vehicles and equipment.
• Order parts and supplies needed for various Fleet projects.
• Track parts/supply usage to support accurate recordkeeping.
• Complete required paperwork associated with repairs and maintenance activities.
• Maintain tracking/documentation of completed repairs.

Working Conditions

Must have ability to lift and carry 30 pounds while walking. May be required to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. May be exposed to extremely hot, humid weather conditions, mosquitoes and other pests. May be exposed to materials that are classified as hazardous, VOC products with the use of specialized PPE equipment. May be exposed to elements including the sun and rain during entire work period. Must be able to bend, squat and climb on a regular basis. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

Required Credentials for Fleet Services Student Intern

• High School diploma or equivalent 
• Currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or other recognized educational or vocational program
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students or minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduate students
• Valid driver’s license

Preferred Credentials for Fleet Services Student Intern

• Understanding of automotive reports and repairs
• Basic computer skills including Word and Excel
• Good communication skills including oral and written
• Team player

Additional Details

This position is typically scheduled to work no more than 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, out of the Tampa, FL office. Student Internship positions are not eligible for insured medical benefits.

Yes. Some travel, using District vehicle, within District's coverage area.
