Description

We are hiring a Fleet Public Health Officer to join Princess Cruises.
 
  All Officers onboard provide a high level of customer service, maintaining a professional, dignified, friendly, assertive, and polite demeanor at all times towards guests and fellow crew members, and demonstrating performance consistent with the organization's Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan.
 
  Successful candidates will be assigned to work four-month contracts onboard our fleet of cruise ships operating worldwide, with two-month intermissions. 

Fleet Public Health Officer Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities 

•  The Fleet Public Health Officer oversees shipboard public health practices through operational support, compliance audits, policy and procedure development and implementation, and HR support of public health officer recruitment, training, and performance reviews. 
• Supports the shipboard Public Health Officers (PHOs) with the prevention and control of communicable diseases, outbreaks and environmental health risks.
• The The Fleet Public Health Officer uses data to identify ship, department, and rank training needs and collaborates with PHOs and other stakeholders to deliver targeted and appropriate training.  
• The Fleet Public Health Officer coordinates with their Shoreside manager, and PHOs to support, follow-up and resolve operational issues with internal stakeholders. 
• The Fleet Public Health Officer provides recommendations for improvements to operations and assists in the development and updates to public health policies and procedures. 
• The Fleet Public Health Officer Facilitates consistent application of policies and procedures through audits, training, feedback and ongoing operational evaluation. 
• The Fleet Public Health Officer trains and develops the technical and operational skills of new and existing public health officers.
• The Fleet Public Health Officer conducts shipboard public health operational reviews and audits and produces reports of findings.
• The Fleet Public Health Officer Initiates shipboard corrective action plans to ensure program and policy compliance.  Follows-up in a collaborative manner with all involved department managers and stakeholders.
• Maintains awareness of relevant local, national, and international public health laws, standards, and regulations and helps to maintain compliance.

Leadership Responsibilities

• The Fleet Public Health Officer sets performance expectations for the PHOs by providing clear guidance and feedback.
• The Fleet Public Health Officer develops and supports a high-performing team of shipboard PHOs through effective coaching, knowledge sharing, performance management, and general administrative guidance. 
• The Fleet Public Health Officer participates in the scheduling the PHOs to ensure uninterrupted coverage onboard each vessel including assisting with planning, anticipating additional support requirements, establishing contingency plans and responding to operational needs.
• The Fleet Public Health Officer participates in the recruitment and onboarding process for new PHOs.

Public Health and Infection Prevention and Control Responsibilities

• Responds to public health emergencies including disease outbreaks.  

Financial Responsibilities

• In compliance with Company procedures suggests cost savings and revenue-enhancing initiatives.
• Consistently integrates responsible financial practices into and demonstrates fiscal compliance.
• Proficient in the use of all IT systems applicable to role requirements.

Safety and Compliance

• Adheres to the guidelines, policies, and principles of his or her applicable professional registration body.
• Ensures compliance with MLC hours of Rest; demonstrates flexibility with on-call rosters and workload adjustments to meet operational needs.
• Stays up to date and complies with all applicable Company Procedures and standards in Global HESS, Operating Line procedures, other Company policies and relevant governmental regulations, and integrates them into practice.
• The Fleet Public Health Officer ensures shipboard public health audit programs are cost effective, flexible, and targeted to current risks and/or ships.
• Identifies and reports any potential patient safety risks, and assists with investigations to analyze root cause, identify learning opportunities, and suggest corrective actions where necessary. 
• Proactively identifies ship-specific public health risks and needs by anticipating the effect of updated policies and/or procedures.
• Participates productively in audits and inspections and assists with development and implementation of corrective actions as needed.
• Ensures shipboard public health audit programs are cost effective, flexible, and targeted to current risks and/or ships.

Application requirements

Successful candidates must hold the following:

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, biological sciences, or closely related field preferred. 
• Two years of shipboard experience or  minimum three years of full-time shoreside professional experience in the field of environmental or public health.  
• Cruise industry experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of infection control practices and vessel sanitation standards. 
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced cruise ship environment, while prioritizing workloads. 
• A valid passport
• Eligibility to be issued a United States C1/D Visa (not applicable for US and Canadian citizens)
• Verbal and written fluency in English, both conversational and technical
• Computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365 productivity suite
• Experience with the use of electronic health records is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate to culturally diverse teams.
• Self- sufficient and able to work independently.
