Fleet and Equipment Intern

Drake is seeking a motivated Equipment Asset Intern to join our team for Summer 2027. The intern will gain hands on experience supporting the management, tracking, and maintenance coordination of company vehicles, heavy equipment, tools, and other assets.

The intern will work alongside equipment, fleet, maintenance, and operations team members to learn how construction equipment is assigned, inspected, maintained, and tracked. This position includes both office and field experience and is ideal for someone who is organized, detail oriented, and interested in construction equipment or fleet operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Shadow equipment and fleet professionals to learn about daily asset-management operations.
• Assist with tracking company vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, tools, and other assets.
• Help maintain accurate records for asset locations, assignments, condition, and status.
• Assist with equipment check-in, check-out, transfers, and inventory counts.
• Verify asset numbers, serial numbers, vehicle identification numbers, and other equipment information.
• Help document equipment condition through inspections, notes, and photographs.
• Assist with reviewing maintenance records, service schedules, warranties, registrations, and inspection dates.
• Help identify equipment that is due for preventive maintenance, service, or inspection.
• Assist with entering and updating equipment information in company systems.
• Support the organization of equipment files, titles, registrations, fuel cards, and related documentation.
• Communicate with project teams, operators, drivers, vendors, and maintenance personnel regarding equipment needs and status.
• Assist with equipment utilization reports and help identify inactive or underused assets.
• Travel to jobsites, shops, yards, and company facilities to verify and inspect assets as needed.
• Follow all company safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment.
• Participate in company training, activities, and internship assignments.
• Perform other equipment, administrative, and operational duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a construction management, equipment management, business, logistics, automotive technology, diesel technology, or related program preferred.
• Previous experience with construction equipment, vehicles, inventory, or asset tracking is helpful but not required.
• Strong interest in heavy equipment, fleet operations, or asset management.
• Dependable, punctual, organized, and willing to learn.
• Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required.
• Ability to travel to assigned jobsites and company facilities.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, and work outdoors for extended periods.
• Ability to access equipment yards, shops, jobsites, and active work areas.
• Ability to lift and carry tools, supplies, or equipment as required.
• Ability to work around heavy equipment, vehicles, machinery, noise, dust, and changing weather conditions.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
